Do you recommend them for long or short walks? Comfy? Do tell please

If you put 'saltwater sandals' into the search bar you'll find literally 100's of comments/posts about them. Which will hopefully help you get a quick overview while you wait for replies.

I love mine, or loved them, until I wore them walking on holiday, and that's where they failed me, I did get bad blisters, they are flat and hard, although comfortable.

sparechange · 04/07/2017 21:43

Long walks definitely not. I got a blister on the whole of the ball of both feet last summer

They are great for general daily pottering though

BreezyBreeze · 04/07/2017 21:45

Is saltwater sponsoring this amount of coverage?

I give it two minutes before someone comes along saying "they're the comfiest sandals ive ever had and I walked 250 miles in them across the gobi desert and they still looked and felt great"

BuzzKillington · 04/07/2017 21:48

I have never met anyone in rl that wears this style of sandal, excluding girls under 8 and women over 80.

I just don't get the MN love.

Barbie1 · 04/07/2017 21:49

Well I've walked along the Qatar desert...not that far because it's too hot Wink

Living in the Middle East means I wear mine most days. They are pretty flat and do tend to ache the ball of your foot if you walk too far, but comfortable enough for daily wear.

ReedBunting · 04/07/2017 21:52

I've just bought some and found that they were comfy straight from the box. I wouldn't wear them for long long walks, but for general day to day stuff they've been good.

Dalesgirl16 · 04/07/2017 22:33

Thank you. I had no idea genuinely that they were even well known. Just saw someone wearing them on Instagram and they looked comfy. V funny replies thank you for advice.

Sounds quite uncomfortable the more I read. I wanted a pretty sandal with good support and fine for walking?

The problem with this question is that people on here have varying ideas for what constitutes a long walk. In my opinion, Saltwaters are no good for anything over about a mile, or roughly 15mins constant walking at a time. So most school runs, walking round shops, general day to to day activities are fine. Wearing all day doing these activities are also fine with all the breaks which happen in between.

Weekend or holiday type walking, sightseeing, walking across fields etc, not appropriate footwear. They are completely flat, and offer no support. You can pretty much feel the ground.

But then I walk 10 miles a day at least, so perhaps not the best person to ask.

Dalesgirl16 · 05/07/2017 08:39

I just mean walking around on holiday so more than 15 minutes but not miles. I like the look of saltwater, I know others don't but the flatness sounds dreadful for walking and I have weak ankles.

They're not for you then. Office stock them if you want to try them, you'll see immediately when you try them on how flat they are.

Of course it also depends on your holiday. Walking around town pavements with lots of stopping is very different to walking across fields, beaches, up and down steps exploring etc.

Tevas are great, just the original universal ones. They are cushioned, and go in the machine and come out looking like new.

But lots of people will come along saying how ugly they are too!

LizTaylorsFabulousTurban · 05/07/2017 09:03

They are really flat and feel really hard when you first put them on but they are also surprisingly comfortable. No initial rubbing, no blisters on my soles, and I've walked a few miles at a time in them. I would think they would be ideal for pottering about on holiday sightseeing. I would have thought they were suited for weak ankles as there is nowhere for you to turn your foot like there would be if you had a thicker sole (but I don't have weak ankles so could be talking balderdash).

BinkyandBunty · 05/07/2017 10:41

They're very soft and comfortable on the skin of my feet but I agree the hard flat soles don't give the support needed for a 'walking shoe'.

I wear mine to the beach and that's it. They're fab for that - still comfortable and soft when immersed in salt water and like new when they dry.

For walking I stick to my beloved Birkenstock Gizehs.

neveradullmoment99 · 05/07/2017 14:55

They are comfy but the sole is quite thin so not for long walks imo.

CreamCrackerundertheSettee · 05/07/2017 14:57

The soles are very flat and hard. I can only wear them if very short bursts which is a shame as I love the way they look.

KoalaDownUnder · 05/07/2017 14:57

I also have bad ankles and flat feet that need a bit of support.

I wouldn't go near Saltwaters.

plantsitter · 05/07/2017 15:00

Just got some fitflops sandals. Aaaaah they are comfy. They're quite nice looking too.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 05/07/2017 15:05

I have four pairs and wear them everyday. They are great for pottering around in and I walk about 4 miles a day in mine doing school runs. They are very flat with no cushioning and my feet are tired by the end of the day. Never had a blister from them though. They are great for wearing on holiday.

ComeTheFuck0nBridget · 05/07/2017 15:54

I love mine, I find them generally very comfortable, never had blisters but if you're looking for support obviously they don't have any, they're just thin, flat soles

Theycalledmethewildrose · 05/07/2017 16:22

DC has them and they look very cute. DC is 5. DC says converse are more comfortable.

I like the colours and have been tempted by them. I like the retro vibe but on adults they can look more frumpy than retro.

MrsPeacockDidIt · 05/07/2017 20:10

I love mine. My feet are covered in blisters trying to break in some hasbeen clogs and my saltwaters are the only thing I could wear today. I can't wear them all day every day though as they are very flat and I need more arch support.

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 05/07/2017 20:18

Me! I like the "retro vibe". I have the original ones in rose gold and personally find them comfy for normal daily pottering around. Wouldn't wear them on a hike, but for general wear they are lovely and comfy.

MirandaWest · 05/07/2017 20:29

I have two pairs. Have walked all over New York in them. I find them comfortable even though my feet are flatter than flat.

Lucked · 05/07/2017 20:38

I can wear them all day on holiday and walk miles in them. Obviously I wouldn't hike in them but if it is sight seeing and meandering around parks then they are great for me.

Mine are a couple of years old and holding up well but I live in Scotland so they are mostly worn on holidays.

Dalesgirl16 · 05/07/2017 22:14

Ok I'm not convinced. I know my feet and I need a different type of shoe. Thanks anyway
