Biore SPF issue.. an alternative?

IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowIt · 03/07/2017 00:51

I've used the Biore SPF for a long time but have found that the new formulation leaves a horrible white cast. I sent for what looked like the older formulation in a second order but again it was in new packaging and left a cast.

I've read that the bright milk version also leaves a cast.

Can anyone recommend a similar possibly Asian beauty SPF? I now have about six tubes of Biore that I won't use.

I alternate between Clinique Cityblock and Hawaiian Tropic Silk. The Clinique is tinted, the Hawaiian one isn't. Both go well under makeup. The Hawaiian one is much cheaper.

I haven't used the Biore but I'm a total convert to this LRP
It's really light, not greasy, no cast, great under make up.

IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowIt · 03/07/2017 15:17

Thanks both
I tried City Block some years ago but found that it made my skin go a strange colour.
I will look at the others that you've suggested.

I've tried one LRP one a few years ago and found it too heavy but will look at them again. I thought that the spray was not supposed to be ideal for 50spf day to day coverage but will look.
Does anyone know of any other good Asian spfs?

Eucerin mattifying spf 50 leaves no cast at all and is really light.

Cheesymonster · 03/07/2017 16:27

I like the Hawaiian tropic silky soft one. Matte and non greasy and no white cast. However it's very scented.

wickedfairy · 03/07/2017 20:09

Do you mean the Biore watery essence spf50?

I use it and haven't noticed a cast... unless I've been wandering around looking even more like a ghost than I normally do😬

LittleMysMoominMamma · 03/07/2017 21:22

I mentioned my disappointment re Biore watery essence/gel in a recent post.

I've sworn by it and recommended it to so many people over the last few years, but the 2017 formulation is awful, aside from the white cast it seems to irritate and burn my skin really badly. I used it three times and it took my skin weeks to recover.

I'm now using the Body Shop Skin Defence Multi-Protection Essence SPF50, texture is nice, no irritation or white cast at all. I'm yet to try it in full sun though, but reviews are very positive.

Agh I've just replaced my Bioré and it's on diefferent packaging - I'm going to be cross if it's the new, rubbish version!

I've seen Étude House recommended on Korean beauty threads, OP - have you tried that? If you're used to Bioré, I'd stick to the Korean or Japanese brands, for that kind of light formulation.

Ollivander84 · 03/07/2017 21:32

There's a couple of 2016 ones on eBay. I'll google as I've seen some articles...

LittleMysMoominMamma · 03/07/2017 21:37

I should add that the Body Shop are very obviously trying to mimic the Korean/Japanese style sunscreens with the product I mentioned - texture etc. is very similar.

wickedfairy · 03/07/2017 21:49

Oh no, I use that all the time. I still have a couple of tubes but older formulation thankfully.

Could you please link to your other thread mentioning this, I can't find it. I am pretty pale, do you think the white cast would be obvious?

Thanks for stating another option you've found, will make a note of that for future use.

IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowIt · 03/07/2017 21:57

Thanks for giving me some options to try. I will try a few of these. Annoying as the Biore is cheap and has been so reliable. I specifically tried to get the 2014 one again after the 2017 left a cast but although it said 2014 when it came it left a cast and was in different packaging to the original.

I didn't know there was a problem with using the spray daily, it seems to work really well and is good against uva too. I have quite oily skin so keeping my make up on my face is a battle at the best of times but this works well.

BaliBound · 03/07/2017 22:24

I use the Shiseido Senka spf but haven't used Biore so can't compare it to that. I do really like it though, it's light, absorbs easily and leaves no cast Smile

Nicketynac · 03/07/2017 23:13

wicked I use one of the Biore milk SPFs (not the brightening one) and I am really pale. It goes on quite white but vanishes very quickly. I don't think it leaves a visible cast but the bottle is only 30ml so doesn't last as long as Watery Essence.
I have just ordered a Shiseido one from Amazon but haven't tried it yet.

IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowIt · 04/07/2017 07:21

Thanks for the comments and the links to the reviews.

I've sent for the Shiseido as it seemed to get the best reviews and be most similar to the original Biore (in theory).

If anyone is interested in buying my new Biore off me please pm me. I have a few...

Took me ages to find the other thread, I was beginning to think I imagined it Grin www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/2934310-Best-SPF-50-for-under-makeup

nothingwittyhere · 04/07/2017 11:00

The Body Shop one is great. Made in Thailand according to the bottle. Leaves my oily combination skin soft and smooth, no SPF greasiness at all. And you can just go into a shop to try some on to see if it suits you.

IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowIt · 04/07/2017 19:34

I reckon I will get the Body Shop one next if the Shiseido one isn't okay. I nearly bought it this morning but was a bit put off by the cost even with a 30% discount.

Try Thank You Farmer from cult beauty. It's probably OOS though 🙄

JDSTER · 05/07/2017 19:21

I know you've bought now but just to say I've recently converted to the Biore bright milk (from using original biore watery essence) and I absolutely love it. It goes on a bit white but then disappears to a lovely finish, a bit like using a primer.

IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowIt · 12/07/2017 20:46

Thanks for the extra suggestions. I've bought the Body Shop one now too. Still waiting for the Asian beauty one from Amazon to arrive.

Oh dear I loved Watery Essence.
I use skinceuticals a lot which is SPF 50 and has universal tint. I am very pale and it looks fine.
