Why can't I blend in bronzer?

I keep trying to use bronzer on my cheeks but it's not blending.
What am I doing wrong, is there some trick to use?

It goes a bit patchy then won't blend anymore. I don't wear foundation but I've tried on top of powder and it still won't blend.. help!

You may be using too dark a tone or you may be adding too much in one go. I apply some to my brush, wipe off excess on back of my hand and then apply with a light touch to my face. I then take a separate smaller brush and blend it out a bit more.

Blending is usually the key to successful makeup.
