I've never in my life considered having an expensive bag but I'm going back to work after maternity leave and I've got a promotion (woohoo!). I will be working from several offices and will be presenting to the board and need to upgrade my work wardrobe significantly!

I need a laptop/handbag type thing but I don't know what to go for. I like these

But they do fall into the Holy Shit am I really going to spend that much on a bag category. So...should I get one anyway, and if so which one? Or can anyone recommend something cheaper?

Well I'm going to say "go for it" if you can afford it. If you love one of those bags it will give you pleasure every day at work. I don't need a laptop bag for work but I'm sure others will be along with some other ideas - I'm sure there was a thread like this recently with lots of ideas.

I say go for it too! And thank you, I hadn't realised there was a Kate Spade sale on :-) I agree that a smart bag you love will make you feel great, and will help upgrade your whole image.

It's worth checking out eBay for bargains - if you aren't worried about having the latest design but want the brand/ quality it seems (from my limited knowledge) to be a good way of getting a lower price.

Congratulations on your promotion! Enjoy the shopping!

Congratulations on the promotion!

I would measure up carefully and allow more room than you think for a laptop

Remember also that depending on the size, a handbag that isn't specifically laptop bag may just about fit a laptop, but may struggle to get the zip done up if you actually need to carry other stuff around as well

If you need to carry the laptop every day I would consider a beautiful laptop bag like Knomo perhaps?

bananafish81 · 27/06/2017 22:18

A laptop bag will also have a padded sleeve to protect your laptop, which a standard handbag won't

daisygirlmac · 27/06/2017 22:25

Thanks all! I have a small laptop, specifically so I can actually carry it round and not break myself. I will have a look at Knomo thank you. I'm not really bothered about having "the latest bestest bag" just want good quality and something that will go with everything, hence the brown or nude thoughts. I think I prefer the Kate Spade one but don't think the pocket is padded?
