Tulle skirts - only for the skinny?

I really fancy a tulle skirt, something like this, to wear with a biker jacket. But I'm size 14. Is it one of those things that looks chic on a size 8 but dumpy on the likes of me? Or can a tall-ish curvy girl pull it off?

I think it'd look good, provided the top was very fitted and the waist very defined.

I think it would look lovely - A-line skirts suit most figures and are really forgiving.

I might get bashed for saying this, but I think curvier figures look a lot nicer in flowy skirts/dresses than skinny jeans and leggings. I'm a pear shape and love A-line stuff as it hides all manner of sins - I could have my thunderthighs or a prosthetic leg under there, no-one would know!

No. You can absolutely wear that. Isn't something that's only for one particular body type, not many things really are.

CakeNinja · 27/06/2017 20:15

Oh you can definitely wear that!
I had a custom made tulle skirt last year for a day at the races. Cost a fortune and they were very good about making it quickly and delivering it asap. Sadly, when it arrived, it looked more like a fancy dress tutu, £75 down the drain, donated to the school dressing up/costume heap Sad
Yours looks beautiful!!

Doobigetta · 27/06/2017 21:29

No, I've got one and I don't think I really qualify as skinny. I love mine, it was a great buy- it's a really good option when jeans aren't quite enough but a dress would be too much. And you can dress it up with a dressier top, or down with a tshirt.

shamoffour · 27/06/2017 21:41

Sorry but I disagree. I ordered one of these (although it was knee length) I'm a curvy size 12 and I think it was the most unflattering think I've ever tried on.
I was gutted as I love them. Maybe a longer one would be better.

Violetcharlotte · 27/06/2017 21:54

I think it depends on your shape. I'm a size 14 and skirts like this look awful on me. I've got quite wide hips which make the material stick out like a shelf.

Groupie123 · 27/06/2017 21:55

They don't suit curves. They actually work better on women whose waists are bigger than their hips/bums.

needsomesunshineandwine · 27/06/2017 22:05

Depends on your shape I think. I'm tall, size 14 and cannot wear skirts or dresses like this.

Would totally love to be able to though.

shamoffour · 27/06/2017 22:11

Yes I have big hips that's probably why I looked like one of those dolls your gran used to put over the top of loo rolls.

It depends on shape but as there pictures show- there is nothing that says plus size women (16+)look bad in Tuille skirts

Hmm, mixed feelings then. I might order it and try. I really want it to work!

Yes. Do order and try. You might find it's more flattering higher on your waist than you'd normally wear. Not hoiked up to bra level obviously, but the proper, old fashioned, bottom of the ribs waistline, IYSWIM.

steppingout · 28/06/2017 00:05

I have bigger hips than that and like them on me, but only worn with something that defines my waist. As suggested above, I tend to wear them at a more vintage style 'natural' waistline which is a bit higher than I find modern clothes to be cut. Give it a go!

I am very interested in the replies as I have been tempted to buy this
