first hair removal for a girl

Hi all, DD (11) has only very recently commented that she has underarm hair. No issue at all, she hasn't asked to remove it so I haven't made a big deal. I just wondered if she does ask to remove it, what would you recommend? My first thought is cream (nair or immac) but not sure the chemicals are a good idea. I think she's too young to shave and waxing might traumatise her for life!! As I say, she hasn't asked yet (and may never) but I would like to have some ideas if she does.

(Please don't flame me for even entertaining the thought that a girl might want to remove her body hair!!!)

I'd got for a lady shave, less of a faff than veet.

BadTasteFlump · 27/06/2017 13:18

Definitely a lady shave - quick, easy and no risk of nasty cuts.

Go even. I should qualify what i said - i was a club swimmer at your daughter's age and self conscious about armpit hair and my bikini line, a lady shave is less invasive than a wet shave and less likely to irritate than cream remover.

Ahh I remember the struggle well.

I think my mum bought me a lady shave but it wasn't long before I moved to a razor. One of those ones with tons of moisturiser round the sides. Almost looked like a razor in a block of soap. Probably only because it would have made it harder to cut myself!

Hadn't even thought about a lady shave - thank you, will investigate. She swims and dances so I don't think it will be long before she becomes self conscious. Thank you.

I got a really good one for about a fiver from Poundworld of all places - i am lazy and have quite fine light hair so it does me fine.

I've got an epilator/shaver which would be suitable and last her for years. Like this one:

I read somewhere that if girls wax a couple of times when they first start getting hair that this inhibits the growth permanently.

d270r0 · 27/06/2017 18:05

I wouldn't go for an epilator- they hurt! Especially underarm! Definitely an electric shaver.

GinnyWreckin · 27/06/2017 18:11

My DD uses a Gillette razor.
No problem, and better and cheaper than so called "ladies" razors.

WanderingTrolley1 · 27/06/2017 18:13

Razor.

Psychedelic - I thought similar and have a friend that has only ever waxed but I personally can't bear the pain of an underarm wax....
