How to accessorise this dress for a wedding?

I've just bought this dress from Jigsaw in the JL sale www.jigsaw-online.com/product/block-stripe-dress/J32588_GY065
It's silk, loose and will be cool to wear if it happens to be roasting on August bank holiday Saturday ( the day of the wedding). I'm 54, size 12/14, 5ft 6, with cropped silver/grey hair.
I'm really pleased with the dress (it has pockets!), I don't like things that are floral, frilly or pastel so wedding guest dress shopping is usually a nightmare for me.
I need to find shoes, a clutch bag, maybe a necklace. Hats don't look good on me with my v short hair, so I doubt I'll wear one, unless anyone has some great suggestions.
I have navy court shoes and some nude, kitten heel sling-backs but they seem a bit boring. I can't do high heels, 2 inches maximum, and they have to be comfortable. I have a navy clutch, but would it look better if I had one in the pink colour?
It's our Godson's wedding. Church ceremony followed by a reception In the Dorset countryside.

Lovely dress! I would use your navy bag and try to get some pink shoes to match the stripe on the dress, these might work
flats
strappy heels
low heel sandals

If you are not keen on hats then a an embellished headband might be good? This one is out of stock but if you are into the idea I could search more...I don't think flowers would go well with the geo print on the dress but a plain navy satin hairband, jewels, feathers or even a bow could work?

It's such a beautiful dress your accessories need to be kept simple to keep inline with the graphic print of the dress I would suggest plain metallic wedges with a silver grey tone and maybe a matching clutch as a handbag could ruin the line of dress and those accessories can be reused again Just a thought

First what a fantastic dress, love it great style and colour. Metallic silver scrappy heels and clutch would accessorise well with the colours in the dress.

*strappy ....damn predictive text Grin

Love the dress! As an aside, I've bought a few recently with pockets - is this a current trend? If so, long may it continue!

Yes, keep it simple with metallics as suggested upthread

Thanks all, I'm chuffed that you all seem to like the dress. I will have a look at metallic shoes/sandals. Can anyone link to some possibilities please?

Jigsaw have metallic silver courts with a mid chunky heel in the sale. Closed toe is better if it rains! Russell and Bromley always have good shoes. Try Hobbs or LK Bennett sale. I don't like wedges for formal occasions. Not very elegant in my view and definitely only suitable for skinny legs or they look clumpy.

Gorgeous dress. I'd try for grey/pewter shoes and a blush pink clutch. I like the idea of a pretty hairband.

Accessorize has 50% sale, I would wear a silver or copper toned locket, simple studs and black heels or embellished toe posts sandals

I don't know what heel style, but these seem comfortable www.clarks.co.uk/c/Glacier-Ray/p/26123825

I love these (just ordered them, I didn't need anymore shoes!!)

mumoffour1715144 · 24/06/2017 18:09

Just realised that shoes and clutch match matchy or different ???Hmm

Antaresisastar · 24/06/2017 20:58

Thanks Remus and mumoffour.
The dress is actually a v dark Navy, so I won't wear black shoes.
I like the idea of picking up the grey colour in the dress for shoes and then either the pink or the blush colour for a bag, or maybe even the other way around. I forgot I have a lovely grey clutch already!
I wear diamond studs every day and will probably wear them for the wedding.
Thanks for your help everyone. I so rarely dress up, looking forward to it now!

Great dress, I bought the same design but in a different colour after eyeing it up for weeks!

For yours I agree matching your accessories to the minor colours in the dress is the way to go. I've got nude shoes to wear with mine but I'm a shorty so need all the help possible to lengthen my legs.
