Do you wear SPF under your makeup?

I'm going on holiday soon, do I wear suncream under my makeup or over it?
Am I going to look cakey?
I know, I know, I should just leave off the foundation but my skin isn't great Confused

I use one from the body shop. It's lovely, leaves my skin soft and is factor 50.

SnugglySnerd · 21/06/2017 18:54

I do. I just use it instead of moisturiser. I look terrible without foundation.

I only wear makeup in the evening on holiday. I wear boots SPF 50 bb cream so I have a bit of coverage on holiday in the day.

loveka · 21/06/2017 19:05

The tinted Ultrasun is totally amazing.

Other than that, always under make up.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 21/06/2017 20:02

Ultrasun or sunsense under makeup or I'd be a lobster by noon.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 21/06/2017 20:09

On the basis of being told that your actual spf is whatever was last on your skin, I use a Roche Posay spray, that goes on over make up.

outnumbered38 · 21/06/2017 20:41

After a recommendation on here I bought some biore uv watery essence suncream on amazon and it's brilliant under makeup, no oily at all.

SnugglySnerd · 21/06/2017 20:50

Do not rely on the spf in foundation. You would have to trowel it on to get proper protection in strong sun. That's intended more as protection in winter or just walking from the car into work/the shops or whatever not for being outdoors in strong sun for any length of time. A relative found this out when having treatment for a melanoma.

CoconutAmericano · 21/06/2017 20:56

I wear the Biore Watery Essence too. Its brillant, very light and watery. You'd never think it was spf 50! High in alcohol though so it may not suit everyone.

LapCatLicker · 21/06/2017 20:59

I use Clinique city sunblock spf25. It's tinted so you can use it on its own or put makeup over top. I have acne rosacea and use this plus a skiff of redness reducing powder when I'm on holiday.

mewkins · 21/06/2017 21:01

Yep biore

Ollivander84 · 21/06/2017 21:03

Biore here too. Although Biore bright milk is next on my list to try Smile

OCSockOrphanage · 21/06/2017 21:04

Biore Watery Essence again. It is fantastic, and works under every skin perfecting cosmetic I know of. A few minutes before you apply the next stuff isn't a bad idea.

Nezzy1981 · 21/06/2017 21:28

I use hawaiian tropic for face spf30 very oily skin keeps me matte and primes amazingly I do wear foundation everyday to hide the brown patches I developed since last summer without spf learnt my lesson and now use it everyday!! £6 from boots so great price as well!

plentyofshoes · 21/06/2017 21:50

I use Ultrasun sensitive for my face. I got a small tube from M&S and put that on first, then Clinique City block factor 25 and a small amount of make up.

IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowIt · 21/06/2017 23:04

I use Biore. That said I like the original version as the 2017 version leaves a while cast. You can still get the old one.

Poppins2016 · 21/06/2017 23:13

I have a compact spf 30 foundation by Shiseido which provides really good coverage, I highly recommend it.

For 'normal' grey British weather I use Revlon (spf 15, not really high enough for the sun). And for 'real' heat I wear suncream alone, as make up slides off!

I get on well with the no 7 protect & perfect factor 50, which has the full 5*** I also have just bought the Roche posay spray, which as I hoped, doesn't disturb makeup.

SpiritedLondon · 22/06/2017 07:47

I'm going to recommend another product Heliocare 360 which is SPF50 and was recommended on a beauty website. Is very light and absorbs well and seems to even out skin tone somehow. ( slightly tinted maybe). You could just use a bronzer or tinted moisturiser/ BB cream on top and forgo the foundation I think.

chloechloe · 22/06/2017 07:53

Please don't rely on SPF on makeup - it's just added as a marketing plus point, it doesn't give sufficient protection.

La Roche Posay Anthelios comes in a tinted version that may help you skip foundation. It's SPF50 and gives quite good coverage.

For those of you using Biore Watery Essence - where can I buy it from a respectable seller? I've heard lots of worrying things about buying products on the grey market - it comes up on Amazon but am concerned about using small sellers in case the product is old or hasn't been properly stored or is fake. Thanks!

bamummy2 · 22/06/2017 07:57

I just bought the garnier face mist. My foundation has spf but I don't like to rely on it so I spray the face mist (factor 50) over the top of my make up. It does leave you a tiny bit oily but is nice and refreshing in this heat!

Ollivander84 · 22/06/2017 11:07

I buy the Biore off eBay but I look for sellers I know are good like Jolse and love shop etc

MaidenMotherCrone · 22/06/2017 11:16

Another Heliocare 360 fan here too. It's fabulous, can be worn alone or under foundation. Have a look at Beauty and the Boutique, the lady is a makeup artist and shares all the best buys with you. The watercolour blush is out of this world too.
