Medical conference dinner, what to wear?

Am presenting at a conference, and attending the gala dinner. What should I wear? Would a navy blue short sleeved shift dress do?

Yes with glam heels and jewellery

I go to loads of these. Anything fairly smartish would be fine - not floor length, even if it is a gala dinner. I usually wear smart trousers + simple top and big necklace or earrings. But a shift dress would be fine. With jewellery?

Oh snap Olympic

Fab, thanks all!

Ok, have just found out the dinner is black tie. Is the shift dress still ok or do I need to think a bit more dressy?

Don't go in your day dress to the dinner if possible. I have done that and felt rubbish at the dinner. Dress sounds lovely for the day.
Can you take something more wow for the evening? Doesn't usually need to be floor length, though some mi, just choose a wow outfit for the dinner.
Enjoy

As you are presenting I eoukdnt do strapless, fussy or floor length (maybe it's just me who would be worried about tripping up on stage...)

Cocktail dress in fairly safe colour and style would be what I was aiming for. Be more adventurous in your shoes if you like. Statement necklaces are great but avoid big bracelets (they can make noise in the mike)

Hang on, I misunderstood- you are presenting at the conference not the dinner....

In which case, dress sounds fine for presentation, yes take a change of dress but it doesn't have to be long
