Am I too old for this summer dress?

Am I too old for a dress like this? I am 44 and I have lost a lot of weight recently. So I have not bought a nice dress for a long while. I have to go to a wedding in a couple of weeks and I like this one and the website was recommended to me by a friend. But I am not sure if it is a little young for me. Advice please!

Have you also looked at Emily & Fin?

CoconutAmericano · 19/06/2017 22:39

It's frumpy mc dumpy op, sorry!

Great cut, loud print.

I'm early twenties and I think you would look great in it but you need to hem it and take it up a couple of inches. Dresses that end at the knee or just below like this one make the wearer look older and frumpy. The fit and flare skater dress style is very flattering though. I am short so tend to hem all dresses I get to make them a little shorter and look younger!

The green is much nicer than the blue

polyhymnia · 19/06/2017 23:46

Agree it could look very aging, though you may be able to style it to avoid that. Wouldn't be my choice if I was as young as you!

TupperwareTat · 19/06/2017 23:49

I think its too old fashioned.

OutandIntoday · 19/06/2017 23:52

I would wear the green and im your age - the blue screams slim senior to me sorry.

pictish · 20/06/2017 00:13

I don't like it I'm afraid. I don't think you're too old for it though.

ErrolTheDragon · 20/06/2017 00:17

I think its the sort of dress which could look good on some women of a range of ages. I've got a couple in a non dissimilar style (full skirt, not pleated, cotton jersey, unfussy, hangs well) which looked good on me when I got it (30) and at various points since (last outing at a wedding a couple of years back, 54). I'm delighted to think they may still be appropriate for another decade or two, if my DD doesn't nick them off me - they'd look great on her too!Grin)

I'm not too keen on those particular prints, but I think the style is perfectly appropriate for a wedding.

Congratulations on the weight loss. I'm not keen on the blue but I really like the green. It's a classic style and for me, it has a bit of a vintage, post WW2 vibe and makes me think of white gloves and framed handbags (in a good way).

I dislike it when people try and pigeon hole you purely by age and 'too young' and 'too old' make me equally grumpy. I can picture Kate Middleton, Kirstie Allsop, and Anna Wintour in that dress but not Alexa Chung, Kate Moss or Mary Portas. In other words I think it's a dress for someone who goes for a classic look. If that's your style, it'll look and feel great. If not it could look like it's wearing you.

Thanks for your opinions everyone - I have ordered it. I guess the retro vintage style at zoevine.com isn't everyone's cup of tea. But I love it!

Now I am confused. Should I go for something like this instead? Or would I look like mutton dressed as lamb?

It depends on how it fits. I would also wear that dress (we must have a similar taste in clothes Smile), but I know that the neckline is right for me.

Try them on, see which looks best.

TrickyKid · 20/06/2017 14:08

I'm 44 and I'd say that dress is too old for me. It depends on your style but you're definitely not too old for the dress.

The dress isn't vintage retro style though. If that's what you're after there are much better choices for your age.
