Products for thinning hair

My mum is 67 and has noticed significant thinning of her hear, particularly around the forehead. Her hair is now mostly grey and she dyes it blonde every 2 weeks. I suspect the thinning is a combination of post-menopausal hormone changes and the hair dye. I suggested she try to dye it less frequently. I was wondering if anyone has had a similar problem and whether you have any tips to share? I'm eyeing the Kerastase Densifique line, but would like to research a bit more before buying it as the products are a bit pricy (even for Kerastase's usual standards!).

Minoxdil - generic or Regaine. Boots do a version too. Women are supposed to use 2% but I've been using 5% (supposedly the men's version) under the direction of a dermatologist and it's helped a lot. I tried just about every other thing on the market with no effect. If you're post menopausal you can safely use the 5%, so your mum should be fine. The only issue is that you have to use it religiously every day, and for the rest of your life. That put me off at first, but now it's just part of my routine, like brushing my teeth. I use a low-alcohol formula (Foligain), as I found the regular one made my head itchy. Seriously, don't delay, as the sooner you start the better the results will be.
