Office wear for hot summer

RudeDog · 16/06/2017 19:35

My office is WARM - staff are required to wear jackets and honestly I am boiling hot!

I don't know what to wear and I can't spend too much on loads of new clothes.

I'm wearing sleeveless tops under my (single) jacket but still too hot.
For years I worked in a cold building and everything I have is too heavy.

Has anyone seen any good CHEAP summer office wear - particularly need a couple of jackets and stuff for my bottom half which looks smartish, but is cool and doesn't show too much of my horrid legs!
Had a look in Asda and online but summer holiday clothes have taken over everything!

Uniqlo!

RudeDog · 17/06/2017 07:51

Only in London and I need to try things on really

Zara is good for jackets and the sale should be on soon.

RudeDog · 17/06/2017 08:05

I should say, I'm not in a city! Maybe this is why I am struggling......

Order them, try them on, return them if they don't fit. That's what I do.

ElephantsYeah · 17/06/2017 08:13

H&M have office stuff, it's quite cheap. I bought a suit there last year for a job interview.

cornflower123 · 17/06/2017 10:04

Yes, Uniqlo! I have one of these to wear in my hot office:

Jumpsuit. Cool, comfortable and no legs on show. You just need a very thin jacket on top (can you get away with sleeveless/short sleeved jacket?)

RudeDog · 17/06/2017 10:40

I'm too fat/old/short for a jumpsuit ha!!

I'm going to H&M later - we do have one of them - think I might be (see above) for them though!

Unfortunately not at all cheap, but I am finding this linen jacket great for work on hot days. It goes well with dresses or trousers and, being linen, is also nice and cool. Hopefully they'll have a sale soon and price will reduce...

Intransige · 17/06/2017 15:22

If you go to H&M check the labels for the fabric. I'd avoid viscose and polyester in summer. Loose and cotton is the best option.

SpiritedLondon · 17/06/2017 18:57

I was coming on to say Uniqlo and saw it was the first reply. They have a good range in the moment with plenty of sleeveless tops and lightweight jackets etc. The only thing you need to watch out for is how much the fabric creases.

jeaux90 · 17/06/2017 19:00

Sandwich do nice cotton jackets that are machine washable

robinia · 17/06/2017 19:07

How much leg is too much?

RudeDog · 17/06/2017 19:33

Below knee?

I went shopping - why has everything got a saggy crotch!

I tried on a million things and got a top from the sale in H&M - not enough! Must get a new jacket - so many of them were lined!
Jacket can be used very loosely by the way....as long as smart

I'd get on eBay and search for 'linen jacket'. Anything unlined would be good. I've found a few good things that way.

thedevilinablackdress · 17/06/2017 20:01

p.s. your office has a daft dress code

RudeDog · 17/06/2017 20:23

It's a school - kids have to so we have to

If you can get over the mn distaste for Next, they do some nice linen blend dresses in various plain colours and prints: www.next.co.uk/g5086s3#412492
I find them very cool and quite flattering. They are just on the knee for me and I am 5'6.

fiorentina · 18/06/2017 10:35

I would agree re Uniqo. Also Cos have some good bits for work that are in natural fabrics so a bit cooler.

GAP had some lightweight smartish jackets when I was in recently and always have offers. Also some cotton and linen skirts and dresses.
