Carry on only - which ten liquids?

I thought I was low maintenance, but clearly I was deluded. Hand luggage only, one week in Greece in July. Ten liquids allowed. What would you take please? Posting on Style and Beauty rather than travel as I think you are my target group!?

Shampoo
Conditioner
Sun cream
Moisturiser
Body lotion
Exfoliating liquid stuff

Use shampoo as shower gel
Wipes for makeup remover

RoganJosh · 15/06/2017 11:12

Oh I forgot toothpaste

Zippybear · 15/06/2017 11:16

I often just buy some liquids in boots once through security

janinlondon · 15/06/2017 11:27

I think Boots on the way through and throw it away before return is the only way. Mascara, eye drops, mouthwash and deodorant have pushed me over ten already... Zippybear I think you are right!

Why only 10 liquids? Not everything needs to be in a 100ml container, surely? I fly quite often and as long as it all fits into the clear 1l bag and no individual item is more than 100ml, I dont think it matters how many items are in there.

janinlondon · 15/06/2017 11:41

Poppy - the regulations are not consistent on this one, I know. It says 1000ml maximum. But there were people in front of me last month being told to dispose of all but ten items in their clear plastic bags. (Brisbane international and also Dubai) and I have heard of it at Luton too.

I haven't heard of that rule and I fly nearly every other week all over Europe. Limit to 100ml size of each item and all has to fit into one of the regulation plastic bags. But no limit to number of items.

Current regulations in U.K:

www.gov.uk/hand-luggage-restrictions/overview

And I can't seem to find anything that contradicts that for Greece.

I always take more than ten (usually 20ish and never had any issues) but if I were limited to ten:

Shampoo
Conditioner
Hair serum
Cleanser
Face scrub
Make-up primer
Face/day moisturiser
Body/night moisturiser
Toothpaste
Mascara

Then I'd buy sunscreen and shower gel at Boots.

I also take things like stick deodorant, face wipes, gel eyeliner and compact foundation which go straight in my case (and I know some people say some of those things should go in the liquids bag, but I've never had any problems).

Whatthefoxgoingon · 15/06/2017 12:30

I've never heard of this ten liquids rule and I fly a lot. I take way more than ten, but all well under 100mls each.

janinlondon · 15/06/2017 12:41

Untangled and Zippy thank you - together you have saved me. Excellent tips. I have been pulled for gel pens at Heathrow, but the wipes is genius. Hand sanitizer, eye makeup remover, and nail varnish remover are all sorted now.

Fortunately I haven't experienced this problem when flying jan. I do use wipes for as much stuff as possible and decant liquids I do need into as small a bottle as I can to last me.

Worth noting about being stopped a some airports though.

daimbardiva · 15/06/2017 13:36

I never put mascara in the clear bag and have never been pulled up on it

specialsubject · 15/06/2017 13:39

Liquids, gels and pastes . only what fits in the clear bag. Rules are for everyone.

PatriciaHolm · 15/06/2017 13:42

We've just been to Corfu and no such rule - as long as it fitted in a bag, no limited on numbers of items.

janinlondon · 15/06/2017 14:15

I think that, as long as the rules are applied randomly, I am almost certain to be the only person who is ever divested of their mascara and gel pens and the only one to be told to get rid of three of my 13 items in my plastic bag........I must have a sign on my forehead or something...
