Ok, am I mad to buy these bags?

Can't decide between Mulberry small Bayswater or small satchel in oak: £850 and £895 respectively.

I want a classic that will last forever and not date. Have a black Bayswater (years old) that looks beautiful still.

Should I buy one?

I got a lovely Coach one in the January sales, in a kind of khaki green colour.

It goes really well with everything - denim, pink, all sorts. I guess if you think about flowers, green goes with most colours doesn't it?

Nice simple style and great quality leather too.

Crochita · 12/06/2017 10:48

I have had Mulberry bags ages ago but sold on as they are too grannyish for me.

I like Tory Burch, much more contemporary.

same colour, similar style

Never heard of Tory Burch so just had a look... and I'd say they're the granny-looking type bags!

I'd get yourself to an outlet. My (4 year old) oak printed Bays was £626.

If you can't, then I much prefer the SBS.

As a warning, my 2013 Bayswater's piping went in the first 2 years at one corner. You're not likely to get the same quality again as your black one given its age.

Redsippycup · 12/06/2017 11:08

Neither are really my cup of tea but i like the first style more, but not in brown. The second style has much better colour choice imo. The rosewater is nice and summery if you already have a winter bag, but the teal (ocean?) is a fucking gorgeous colour. With blue jeans in the sunshine that would be stunning! It wouldnt be too out there the rest of the year either.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 12/06/2017 11:17

Oh dear Lord, Tory Burch bags are hideous! Shock

I'd be hard pushed to spend £1k on a bag, not because I couldn't afford it but because anything that's ever posted on here is awful (imo!)

I have a vintage Mulberry bag I will be selling (when I get my arse in gear !)and from the looks of things I'll get a lot for it ,but I have no idea what to replace it with.

Definitely don't compromise OP,for that money you should LOVE your new bag and it should be perfect for your needs.

PNGirl · 12/06/2017 11:26

FWIW I also recommend Coach. I got a khaki one in the sale (probably the same one as a PP) and the quality is excellent.

OhWellNeverMindEh · 12/06/2017 16:53

Right, thanks for all the replies, I am going to buy..........

THE SMALL SATCHEL IN OAK

phew....and breathe

Congratulations Grin

AuntPol · 12/06/2017 16:56

That's what I would have gone for too, OP. Or maybe the satchel in the oxblood... But definitely the satchel.

Enjoy your new bag Smile

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 12/06/2017 17:02

Much nicer than the one with wings.

SpiritedLondon · 12/06/2017 17:59

The tan one will never go out of fashion but the other colours might.

thethoughtfox · 12/06/2017 19:09

Try the Alexa. I have it in red and it goes with everything.

thethoughtfox · 12/06/2017 19:10

Sorry just read the end and saw that you've made your decision.

bananafish81 · 12/06/2017 19:52

@thethoughtfox I was in the Mulberry store on New Bond St on Saturday to drop my 7 year old Roxanne satchel in for repair, and was gutted to see they don't make the Alexa - or indeed anything resembling it - any more

The bags are all really boxy - I wanted something a bit smaller and slouchier for non work days, when I don't need to schlepp so much around with me, and the Alexa would have been perfect

I'm quite picky about bags as I want something that's practical as well as stylish - which for me means an external pocket for keys and oyster card, zip up top for security on the tube, big enough handles to wear as a shoulder bag, and big enough to sling in my laptop if needed. Bonus points if can wear cross body and has internal zippy pockets as well.

The Bayswater is a gorgeous bag, it just wouldn't work for me personally. I've been very happy with the quality of my Mulberry Roxanne satchel - only now after 7 years do I need the zip replacing

(I did find a lovely Michael Kors saddle bag on The Outnet in the absence of being able to splurge on an Alexa. Whilst browsing I came across Rebecca Minkoff tote bags which I'm now lusting after big time. I'm not a bag person usually, honestly!! Blush)

PuppyPickler · 12/06/2017 20:10

I'm glad you've decided to buy it! So many apologetic posts on MN about buying a high price item. If you can afford it you should buy it. I can't imagine men on Blokesnet asking if they should buy that fancy new fishing rod or iPhone.

OhWellNeverMindEh · 12/06/2017 20:52

I'm so excited, I just hope they have the bag in stock and happily swap mine! Just panicking that there's some strange rule about returning small bags?!!

OP posts:
OhWellNeverMindEh · 12/06/2017 21:27

This is the one I have, it is a beautiful bag, just not as useful, wish it was bigger

darley

OP posts:
WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 12/06/2017 21:31

Oh I think that Darley bag is rather ugly so you're definitely doing the right thing by swapping!

Although I'm more of a fan of bright colours than black/browns.

MiniCooperLover · 12/06/2017 22:06

I have a pale blue one which is lovely, though I only use it in summer time. I wish I'd gotten an Oak coloured one actually as I think it's a year round colour.

DisorderedAllsorts · 12/06/2017 22:32

I like the bags from Tusting, they are not as well known as Mulberry but make classic, hardy bags.

Iamblossom · 13/06/2017 15:33

I absolutely love the Bayswater.

I think if you can afford it and you will get pleasure from it, why not?

hollygolipo · 13/06/2017 16:04

If it's not too late, are you going through an airport anytime soon? I got a Mulberry Bayswater (large size) for £500 at Stansted instead of £1100...

OhWellNeverMindEh · 13/06/2017 16:20

Wow! What colour? I'm not going on hols abroad this year (can't afford it after buying the bag Grin)
