I live in NY and you can get whitening strips at any of the big chemists like Duane Reade, Walgreens or CVS.

For lipsticks I'd find a branch of Ricky's and see what that have. There are a few shops scattered all over the city and they cater to professional makeup artists as well as the public. I rate the NYC matte lipsticks.

There's also sephora which has it's own line, which is very good.

Ooh, I suggest PJ Clarke's in Midtown East (55th and third) for a great burger. Also give The Smith a try for a good buzzy atmosphere. I'd also recommend El Quinto Pino in Chelsea for nice tapas and sangria.

The roof at Gallow Green is great for cocktails, as is Bathtub Gin. The rooftop at Eataly is great for wine and nibbles but make sure to book ahead - it gets really busy up there in the summer.

Pretty much anywhere in Chelsea market is good for lunch. Cork buzz and Cull and Pistol good for drinks and light bites in the evening.
Brunch at Catch in the meatpacking is really good - ask for the set menu. dinner at Beauty and Essex is a splurge, but well worth it for the people watching and the atmosphere. Again, book ahead as it gets really busy.

Have fun!

Just thought of a couple more -

I've never been, but DH rates Fonda in Chelsea for Mexican. Any of the branches of Rosa Mexicana are also really good and pretty reasonably priced. If you really want to push the boat out, go to La Bodega Negra. So expensive, but so delicious.

If you happen to go to Brooklyn, try the Norm in the Brooklyn Museum. The brunch is delicious.

I highly recommend a trip to the Long Island City Waterfront park for spectacular views (see pic) and if you go there, Kavala is well worth a visit, as is Cafe Henri and Casa Enrique (pretty cheap, but with a Michelin star!) also annabale basin for cheap waterfront drinking.
