How long does gel nail polish last for?

So I had my nails done for the first time ever last Friday. While they haven't chipped they have grown so much they quite frankly look ridiculous and I am about to remove the polish. How long does gel polish last you before you need to remove it? How does anyone ever afford to have this done weekly?!

I do mine every fortnight. I now only wear light/nude colours on my fingers as my nails grow so fast and I can't bear looking at the regrowth and the pale colours help disguise it a bit

I do my fingers every fortnight to 3 weeks (it's dire by the 3 week point though!) my toenails must be really slow though as I only change that every 6 weeks ish

Fingers need re-doing every 2-3 weeks.

Can you put a photo up? Mines grown 2mm at most in the past week.

MrTumble toenails grow at half the rate of fingernails so only need redoing at half the frequency!

I'm a Nail Tech and I see some clients fortnightly and others 3 weekly, it depends how quickly their nails grow and how bothered they are by the regrowth - it bothers some more than others. The regrowth will look worse to you than anyone else, I guarantee it!

This is a weeks growth - not sure I can cope with another week before I remove it!

I've had a couple of manicures (forced, for friends' weddings) and mine are similar - 3-4 days later it's a third of the way up the nail. In a week it's halfway off.
I think some people have really slow growing nails and that's why they get on OK with gel / manicures. People say they get them backfilled every couple of weeks. That's crazy - my nails grow a centimetre in that time! But everyone is different.

That looks fairly normal IMO. It doesn't look bad at all.

Waxy I don't think they look bad at all even with a little growth.

I had mine done for a wedding 5 weeks ago, French manicure with clear glitter. The manicurist did say that it would last longer because it was clear so you can't see the growth. They are still going strong, I am 5 weeks!!

It doesn't look too bad. Most people look at the tips of the nails, not the base anyway.
