Where to find NICE boys clothes?

HGisme · 07/06/2017 11:56

They all look bloody awful in the shops.

I found out DC was a DS last week and had a little cry about clothing options Hmm

I'm thinking for a baby first and foremost but also older children, too.

I love white, maybe grey and beige on babies so that's fine for blankets and baby grows etc. Not a fan of the Spanish baby clothes look either Confused It all looks badly made and very fussy.

But how about when they're a little older? Everything looks naff, all these stupid slogan tees.

All my styling ideas are going into his Christening gown, of which I'm getting made since we cannot find my Mum's.

Yes, having two boys has opened my eyes to the horrible gendering of kids' clothes and how much more there is for girls.

I hate sludge colours and slogans on kids' clothes, particularly of the 'Mummy's little terror' bullshit kind.

I shop mainly at Gap and John Lewis for my boys. Harder as they get older and def more expensive (have to do a lot of laundry!) but there are some nice options and these are the two brands that have survived DS1 and still look good on DS2. Jojo does some nice things - I'm a big fan of their long shorts for boys in particular - and have inherited some Boden from friends which washes and lasts really well.

HGisme · 07/06/2017 12:02

Jass Like JoJo a lot, nice stuff.

I also like Boden but haven't seen any recent boys bits so will have to have a browse.

Thank you Smile

JoJo Maman Bebe go up to 5-6 years
Frugi go up to 9-10 years (this is my first choice) - they stock in John Lewis but not the whole range, they only have the whole range on their own website
John Lewis toddler boys go up to 2-3 years and they have a boys range from 2 years
Jasper Conran at Debenhams
John Rocha at Debenhams
M and S can have lovely things in their baby range (up to 18 months I think) and young boys (up to age 5)
Boden too

Ralph Lauren for occasions

I like to buy bright colours casualwear for my boys, and I like them to look sort of co-ordinated (but not in an uptight way!).

Vanannabananna · 07/06/2017 12:07

Jojo is a firm favourite as well as John Lewis, next and h and m.

TheVeryThing · 07/06/2017 12:10

It wasn't too bad when they were younger, but now they are 9 and nearly 6 it's bloody depressing. Just a sea of black and grey, camouflage and skulls everywhere.
I pick up bits and pieces in H&M, Zara, M&S, also like the' name it' brand but the choice is limited and I have to look hard.

BrucesTooth · 07/06/2017 12:12

I like Sainsburys for boys and girls, mix of plain/patterned/funky and yes, some of the sloganned stuff (ugh) but well made and well priced.

AFingerofFudge · 07/06/2017 12:14

I like the Little Bird range at Mothercare, slightly retro looking. They only go up to age 8 and my youngest is 8 so I'm a bit sad that this will be the last year of him wearing that stuff.

KatharinaRosalie · 07/06/2017 12:16

Scandi brands are cheerful and not gendered. Maxomorra, PoP, Villervalla, DUNS etc. They tend to be a bit expensive, but really great quality. Some here:

ProseccoandPizza · 07/06/2017 12:16

My DS is nearly 7 but I don't think I've changed where I get his clothes from all that much since he was born.
John Lewis, Jasper Conran and M&S from new born.
JoJoMaman Bebe until he outgrew it at 5.
H&M, Boots mini club in white, red and navy ever since.

GU24Mum · 07/06/2017 12:18

Another vote for John Lewis - we get most of DS's things from there with some other stuff .

StarHeartDiamond · 07/06/2017 12:19

I wish there were dad more primary coloured clothes for boys than there are.

You get:

  • mustard/brown/dark green/navy
  • Neon green/orange
  • Red and black
  • a few pale blue & white things
  • cheap slogan or character tat.

Next do some really nice things if you pick through. As do debenhams & M&s, but you have to mix and match a lot.

I refuse all of the above except the pale blue and white, so I have a really limited palette to work from! I like jeans with a nice green, yellow, blue or red top, stripes, patterns etc. But not sludge colours or the dreaded slogan or red & black combo - it's so aggressive looking on boys. I've never chosen anything black for them except school shoes.

StarHeartDiamond · 07/06/2017 12:19

*lots!

spiderlight · 07/06/2017 12:23

There are lots of lovely boys' clothes out there but the slogans and sludge drown them out a bit. When DS was little I used to like Pumpkin Patch and Polarn o Pyret, and Gap is good for nice bright plain/striped tops without horrible 'Daddy's Little Whatever' all over them.

JassyRadlett · 07/06/2017 12:41

Oh yes, PoP!

TakeMe2Insanity · 07/06/2017 13:34

Jojo
POP
John lewis
Zara
Gap have some good things

Jemimapuddleduk · 07/06/2017 13:42

We like boden, frugi, POP, joules, mayoral, mini rodini (all of which have pre loved fb sites to get 2nd hand bargains), gap, boots mini club, m&s, H&M and Sainsburys.
We tend to do bright rainbow colours mostly joggers or shorts with t shirts and hoodies.

Blondielongie · 07/06/2017 13:47

Joules
Boden
Marks and spencers
Zara and h&m (but I love their sludge colours)

Sainsburys TU also great and wash very well.

Blondielongie · 07/06/2017 13:48

Also knitted all his knitwear when I was pregnant so could get colours I wanted (although I copied most of the colour and patterns from stuff I liked but couldn't afford for him from Boden.)

Now hes over 1, things take a lot longer to make up....

FlaviaAlbia · 07/06/2017 13:50

I like bright non slogan clothes for DS and have had most luck in Sainsbury's. It goes in fits and starts though, sometimes they have nothing I like, then they'll get loads in.

Topsyloulou · 07/06/2017 14:02

I get a mixture of Sainsbury's, Gap, Boots, John Lewis & Mothercare. Also starting to get a few bits from Joules now he's not growing so fast. Sainsbury's clothes wash & wear really well. You can now order online too so you can access the full range.

Me4You · 07/06/2017 14:02

White Company all the way. I enjoyed buying baby boy clothes. Never understood the angst.

I have never needed to buy a slogan top or anything with a monster or digger on it!

HGisme · 07/06/2017 14:19

Me4You The £38 I spent on 1 jumper type romper mad my eyes water today Grin

Me4You · 07/06/2017 14:31

But they have really good sales and I always use 15 or 20% codes.

Seriously, look in the drop down menu under offers and then click Litte White Clothing and you'll find heaps of things at huge discounts. And your baby won't care if he's a season behind...

I swear that shop is the main reason why I keep having babies....

PerditaNitt · 07/06/2017 14:40

When I found out I was having a boy, I wasn't looking forward to buying clothes because I thought that the choices would be really dull. However, I have been able to find some lovely things for him. Marks and spencer have been great (the colourful stuff always seems to sell out faster, so worth checking regularly). Sainsbury's has been decent for essentials. John Lewis is good - they generally have lovely prints. White company is nice, but they haven't had that many great prints recently (to justify the price, it needs to be pretty special!). Next is ok - you need to go to the bigger stores to get the nicer items. If I had the money (and figured out a way to keep him clean) I would have him in bright Toby Tiger clothes most day!

ShowgirlnamedLola · 07/06/2017 15:18

My 12mo is head to toe JoJo most days. I've bought a few of the same items several times when he outgrows them. Love the stripey long johns and dungarees
