Wellies for wide calves

Hullo - I'm desperately trying to find some wellies for Glasto, but have the calves of a particularly rotund elephant Blush I'm a 7 in trainers, but tried a 9 in Hunters Regular Tall and they were waaaaay too narrow for my tree trunks. Same problem with the Hunter Norris Field Adjustable. I'm thinking short Hunters might be better, but they're so expensive. Can anyone recommend really good wellies for the large of calf? Thank you!

Have you tried Simply Be wellies - they do wellies in a wide calf ??

Wide wellies

In my old age I am finding J D Williams comes to the rescue more often than not.

I have to wear steel toe cap wellies for work and have found men's wellies a better fit (sorry if I've wrongly assumed you are female!). I still have to size up to fit my calves though. It's a pain having curvy legs!

badasahatter · 06/06/2017 10:35

more expensive options but guaranteed to fit

AlmostNQT · 06/06/2017 10:36

I can't even fit my calves into "wide fit" wellies. I have Dunlop wide shorter wellies from amazon that work great :)

I've had two lot of the the "Miss ----" style wide leg ones and they survived three Glastonburys each.

I got some from George at Asda, good fit & cheap as chips.

DamnItCoral · 06/06/2017 10:41

Ooh thanks - some good options here! Knew the hive mind would pull through Wink and yes haha, I am a (short and squat) woman!

Jileon are great for extra big calves - I struggle with "normal" wide fit but have a pair of these and there is room to move!

QueenMortificado · 06/06/2017 10:42

The hunter duchess ones (I think) are very generous on the calves. Plus the joules ones with the ribbon at the back are very generous too.

Btw, hunter standard are ludicrously slim fit on the calves - it isn't just you!

MrsJamin · 06/06/2017 12:14

Decathlon, brilliant value for money wellies.

blodynmawr · 06/06/2017 12:24

I have these short Joules ones.

UrsulaPandress · 06/06/2017 12:27

Try Goodyear 'Stream' Wellies - I have huge calves and they fit me.

ThisisrealityGreg · 06/06/2017 12:32

Also coming on to say Dunlop shorter wellies. Really cheap and I've had mine for years - snow, festivals, muddy walks.

OCSockOrphanage · 06/06/2017 12:57

Ilse Jacobsen wellies have a gusset and lacing so can be adjusted to accommodate your legs.

AngelicaSchuylerChurch · 06/06/2017 13:01

I had some lovely Seasalt short deck wellies in bright coral but the rubber perished and split after about six months of weekly wear. I've now got these from Decathlon and they are brilliant. You can get them even cheaper without the neoprene lining but the lining is removable and I was glad of it in the winter and early spring. Really good grip in mud, too.

Dizzybacon · 06/06/2017 13:07

Hunters have gone down massively in my opinion, they don't make them like they used to.

Being a horse owner I spend all day in wellies so a good fitting, comfortable, robust welly is a must.

My Ariat Stormstoppers lasted about 4 years but your looking at £100+. I'm currently on Le Chameaux.

I guess if your only going to wear them for a festival a cheap pair from Asda or Decathlon will do just fine.

If you want something stylish that you can wear past Glastonbury have you considered a Country Boot?

LBOCS2 · 06/06/2017 13:13

I was going to suggest a country boot too. I've got extremely curvaceous calves and have a pair of Cabotswood wide legged boots which fit perfectly.

Otherwise, for branded ones you're looking at Hunter Huntress (which are wide legged).
