Is this dress too young for me?

I'm a (so I'm told Grin) young looking 40.

I showed a friend this dress and she said it's a bit mutton dressed as lamb.

I like it, dh says it looks great but now I'm a little paranoid.

Is this dress too young for me?

I like it! Definitely not too young for you!

PacificDogwod · 05/06/2017 20:56

You like it - you wear it! Smile

eaturveggies123 · 05/06/2017 21:01

Of course it's not -it's lovely!

Argeles · 05/06/2017 21:02

It's gorgeous, wear it with your head held high!

loopyloppy · 05/06/2017 21:03

Yay! Smile

Hmm maybe it was just a bit of a jellyfish comment then. (Is that the term?)

It's hard to find clothes after having ds. I have a massive stomach still and big bum but decent legs so this kind of thing suits me best.

I would say it's too young, sorry.

loopyloppy · 05/06/2017 21:04

Fucks sake you have the right name Buzz lol! Grin

MrsPringles · 05/06/2017 21:04

I love it (and bought a very very similar one in primark for £6!)

BuzzKillington · 05/06/2017 21:04

Haha! I thought that too!

But S&B is for honest opinions!

Lj8893 · 05/06/2017 21:05

If you like it and it looks good on you then do for it! Clothes don't have age ratings Wink

Amaried · 05/06/2017 21:05

Sorry I think it's more of s teenager dress. Agree a bit with the mutton dressed as lamb comment..
Sorry!

loopyloppy · 05/06/2017 21:06

No I appreciate all the opinions.

Dh doesn't count because he'd say I look nice in THAT M&S dress bless him.

Herestonevergrowingup · 05/06/2017 21:08

It's not mutton, just depends if it suits you. It wouldn't suit everyone eg me.

blue2014 · 05/06/2017 21:10

I think it's just awful full stop. Sorry

MikeUniformMike · 05/06/2017 21:19

It's lovely. I'd wear it and I'm 38 and a few months. about 140 months.

Mutton dressed as lamb! Not heard anyone under 70 use that phrase.

ittooshallpass · 05/06/2017 21:22

It's a bit shapeless... it only works on model as she's skinny. If you are wearing to cover up bigger belly and bottom it might not look so good... Confused

lionsleepstonight · 05/06/2017 21:23

I love those dresses but at 45 I find them impossible to pull off, and I've tried hundreds of them as I'm desperate to have one!

ooodile · 05/06/2017 21:25

Of course you can wear it! I need fitted clothes, but would love to wear a summery dress like this. If you've got good legs, it'll be perfect on you.

NC4now · 05/06/2017 21:31

As my very glamorous MIL always says - better mutton dressed as lamb than mutton dressed as mutton.

What is a 40 year old supposed to wear?

JustCallMeKate · 05/06/2017 21:38

Don't worry what other people think. It's only an opinion afterall. Wear what you like and if you feel good in it then buggar what anyone else thinks. Absolutely no-one has any right to tell you what you should wear and what you shouldn't! According to a lot on MN you should wear the bloody awful saltwater sandals and hush ruched skirt. Many people like these sandals and skirt but personally I think they're bloody awful and they're not something I'd wear. I wouldn't judge anyone who chose to wear them though.

I love that that dress and would wear it. I'm nearly 50. I really don't give a toss what anyone else thinks, if I love something I'd wear it and if someone else doesn't agree then that's their issue not yours ☺️

junebirthdaygirl · 05/06/2017 21:46

I think it depends on where youre wearing it. It would be lovely on holidays in a sunny seaside place going out for the evening and age wouldnt matter. But around home it mightnt be great.

Madeyemoodysmum · 05/06/2017 21:48

I think on hols or a summer bque it's fine but shopping in Sainsbury's too much

loopyloppy · 05/06/2017 21:51

I won't wear it to Sainsbury's. Grin

I always go out with the 'fuck em all attitude' then after a funny look get all self conscious and scurry home.

It looks like a dress for a 20- something to me, but that's no reason for a 40-year old not to wear it.

I tend to think tent-like items look better on the ridiculously slim and that people carrying extra padding need a bit more structure (see apple-shapes in tunics), but that's just me.

If I loved something and wanted to wear it, no way would I ask for opinions on here!

Ignorance to other people's thoughts and opinions - which don't count for jack at the end of the day - is truly bliss when it comes to stuff like this.
