Navy dress summer wedding.

Would you wear a navy dress for an August wedding? I planned on doing this but my mil said you could never wear a navy dress for a summer wedding. I must confess I am not very fashionable so I have not heard this before. So would you?

You can totally wear a navy dress to a summer wedding.

hippadoppaloppagorillapig · 04/06/2017 21:11

Yes of course you can. I would, but I would wear bright accessories. Maybe hot pink / coral?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 04/06/2017 21:12

There were loads of guests at Pippa's wedding wearing navy. It's fine.

wobblywonderwoman · 04/06/2017 21:13

My favourite colour. I would wear coral or cerise pink shoes

AuntieStella · 04/06/2017 21:14

Depends on the dress. It can look too office-y or even funereal if plainly cut and in heavy fabric, and at the dark end of navy.

But if towards the French end, or tipping towards royal or midnight, and it's a frivolous cut in a summer (maybe floaty) light weight fabric, then it might work. Especially with bright accessories

Rockaby · 04/06/2017 21:18

Yes, definitely fine imo. I like pp suggestion of hot pink accessories.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 04/06/2017 22:04

Fine as long as it doesn't look black.

LockedOutOfMN · 04/06/2017 22:22

Navy's fine. Monsoon has a navy wedding guest / bridesmaid dress at the moment.

Jogonmate · 05/06/2017 07:01

Thanks all, I will be going with hot pink accessories and shoes.

Yellow accessories would be a fashion forward way to go.

MinesaPinot · 05/06/2017 09:23

Yes, absolutely you can. I wore a navy cocoon shape in a lighter fabric from Mint Velvet, some kick-ass navy flowery peeptoe heels and picked out the pink from the shoes for my clutch and wrap (sorry M-Netters but yes, I did take a pashmina).

And to tie in with another thread...I didn't wear a fascinator, or a hat Grin

Your mother in law is just making up rules. Ignore. It will look lovely.

Jogonmate · 05/06/2017 17:50

In my mils defence she did trip over her tongue backwards when I said I was planning on a navy dressGrin suddenly it became the best colour to wear.
