Tank tops

Anyone recommend where to get a really decent black tank/vest top from, one that isn't at all see through and doesn't have skinny straps? I want something smart and structured to wear with skirts in summer. Most are not smart enough. Thanks!

Sainsbury's!

Tollygunge · 03/06/2017 21:58

Really?! Do they not look really underweary? Can't stand things where you can see shape of my belly button

Get a friend who knits to make one to your exact specifications?

Or ask at a wool shop to see if they know any knitters who offer that service.

If you're small, then the sort of uniform shops which cater to private schools usually have them (in a range of colours) in their jumpers section

My Ines from Sainsbury's are fab - I'm not skinny and hate see through. Think they are a fiver, fab.

I have some nice french connection vests, they are silk in the front and jersey at the back, so loose at the front.

I would like one of these as well.

Ideally, I'd like something in black or blue (navy?) with a jersey back and a sort of holey/broderie anglais front!

rollonthesummer · 04/06/2017 11:08

I don't want a knitted one though, reading that back. Something cotton.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/06/2017 11:17

Do you mean a vest top? To many, 'tank top' = a knitted sleeveless top to wear over a shirt.

Something like this?

rollonthesummer · 04/06/2017 11:31

I think what I want is a vest rather than a tank top, bug I know what the OP means as it's a tank top shape, but not a strappy one or a very t-shirt type material. I'd like a holey/broderie type front rather than silky though-can anyone possibly find me one of those?!

boggedoff · 04/06/2017 12:20

i loved my knitted tank top in the 80s Grin

imjessie · 04/06/2017 13:01

Do you mean plain vests ? If so Tesco are fab but size up as they aren't as big as their usual clothing .

rollonthesummer · 04/06/2017 13:19

Plain vest but with a fancy front!

Tollygunge · 05/06/2017 07:46

I meant vest tops, but thought they were called tank tops 🙈 Just nothing cheap looking, I have quite small boobs and good arms so could wear to work if it was of a thicker material

The warehouse one is nice but need something more fitted. My friend has one which is made of a thick jersey material and double layered at front so nothing on show

My uniqlo ones are still going strong after several years. I've got some plain (tshirt material) and some ribbed with lace trimming, reversible v neck and round neck. Nice length too, goes over my trousers / skirts.

Iamastonished · 05/06/2017 21:16

I have two of these M and S vest tops - one in white and one in navy. The quality is surprisingly good.
