Wedding In July - Is This Ok?

JiminnyCricket · 01/06/2017 17:16

I'm skint and losing weight rapidly so I don't want to buy expensive stuff at my current size.

Would this dress be ok for a family wedding in July? How could I posh it up a bit and make it less worky?

Help, I'm rubbish at this stuff :(

I think it's really nice but there was a thread a few weeks ago where some people were saying it was really rude to wear black to a wedding which I'd never heard so I might not be the best person to ask!

I don't think it's too "worky"- have you got shoes? Maybe a nice floppy sun hat for July?

taybert · 01/06/2017 18:38

Hat?

taybert · 01/06/2017 18:43

New look have loads of shoes:

Wooden heel
bow back
ribbon tie

taybert · 01/06/2017 18:45

Clutch- not sure if the colour is quite right

RumbleRoar · 01/06/2017 18:49

There is a site called everything five pounds.
Might be worth a look if you don't want to spend much. Can be a bit hit or miss though

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 01/06/2017 18:57

Tay I think the black thing refers to wearing all black, as in looking like you're off to a funeral.

I think you're dress is lovely OP and very suitable.

taybert · 01/06/2017 19:23

Well that's what I thought too but some people were saying different.... Anyway- there are some nice things on that £5 website if it's literally going to be worn once.

messofajess · 01/06/2017 19:32

I think hair and make up looking pristine really counts for a lot - as do a pair of killer heels and dangly earrings and you'll look fit for the part! You could also get a lovely waistbelt to cinch it in more.

KickAssAngel · 01/06/2017 19:35

For a wedding you should look neither funereal nor like you're trying to upstage the bride - therefore heavy black or a cream meringue would be questionable.

That looks fine.

Standandwait · 01/06/2017 21:06

The rule against black is against ALL black IMHO. Likewise "worky" looking would be all black, or longer, or more like a shift. I'd say that's neither, I'd say that's perfectly appropriate. Unless the person objecting is the bride or her mother, ignore.

taybert · 01/06/2017 21:24

I honestly wasn't objecting, I was just surprised on a thread a few weeks ago how strong the feeling was and some people saying you should never wear any black. It obviously isn't a common thing based on the responses here. I think it's a lovely dress for a wedding and a good price too.

JiminnyCricket · 01/06/2017 22:37

Thanks guys! I can't wear hats, curse of a head shaped like an air ship Blush but I'm a dab hand with a beauty blender and can do the attached photo with my hair (that's obviously not me!), I was a bit worried the dress wouldn't work but I agree heels and a nice clutch will sort that. Jewellery?

I just bought some lovely jewellery in Debenhams sale. I'll link.

Softkitty2 · 02/06/2017 10:47

Oooooh agree wholeheartedly with seriously

JiminnyCricket · 02/06/2017 13:06

love that!

Hair is easy: Curl your hair and backcomb at the root slightly to get a bit of lift. I shove a bit of dry shampoo in too with my head upside down to get some volume. If you have a fringe, style it as normal but if not, brush your hair back but not flat to your head, as if you were going to put it in a pony tail at the base of your skull. Get a hair bun doughnut, cut it so it's a sausage not a doughnut. Pin to the back of your head just at the base of your skull on top of your hair. The curve of the doughnut will try and spring back so pin the ends first. Pin that motherfucker DOWN. Fold hair section by section over the doughnut sausage and tuck behind between the sausage and your head. Pin sections in place then pull slightly at the back to relax it and mess it up. Depending on your head shape, you can create a bit of a bouff by gently pulling up near the sausage but dont go overboard otherwise you'll have to start again!

I should have mentioned I already have the dress, wearing it for date night tonight and it is lovely, I was worried to wasn't wedding appropriate but it seems it's fine :)

Looks great, OP, perfect for a wedding. Congratulations on your weight loss. I'd wear it with brightly coloured heels and bag and some sparkly jewellery.

messofajess · 04/06/2017 10:28

You look super lovely. Hope your date went well x

yohoohoo · 04/06/2017 18:54

What about this for your hair op - sidehat

yohoohoo · 04/06/2017 18:55
