Help for reluctant night out

Have to do a work summer party which is a sit down meal and 'disco'.

I don't really want to go but need to show face. I don't usually do these kind of nights out - haven't had to find more than jeans and a nice top for 2 years now.

I have one dress. It's a navy lace shift, just above the knee. I wore it to the last Christmas party I went to a couple of years ago.

I was wondering if I could get a pair of cheap shoes (possibly flat strappy sandals as heels hurt my knee), some bling and a cheapo clutch and go for pared down chic. Or would I just look frumpy? Am early 40s, short, size 14 and curvy with a sturdy ankle.

I am skint and resent spending anything on this but also often look messy and like I haven't made an effort even when I have so want to feel ok

I think what you've described sounds nice. Tan flat sandals, a raffia bag and maybe some tan or wooden beads.
