Bikini waxing

Talk to me about bikini waxing! I've never had any sort of Bikini wax before so looking for others experiences please.

I'm going on holiday soon, I usually shave it all off down there, but I am seriously considering getting a wax before my holiday so I can relax in my swimsuit knowing there won't be any regrowth/stubbly bits visible!

Is it a waste of time getting just a bikini line wax? Should I go for the whole thing or is it excruciatingly painful? I'm sure it would feel great afterwards but not sure I dare take the plunge.

Any experiences on bikini line waxes or more would be greatly appreciated!

I've always gone with a full wax and I can honestly tell you that it doesn't hurt. My wax lady also makes it a point to listen to all my life's problems chat with me throughout the session so it does make the experience pretty relaxing even!

One thing I must say though, is that depending on the wax used, your hair has to be a minimum length for it to work properly. So that's definitely something to keep in mind before booking an appointment.

Watching with interest. I've always found strip waxing really painful but have booked in for hot wax on Friday.

By "full" I assume you mean every last bit of hair removed aka the Hollywood? There are a lot of stages between just whipping off the hair that would show outside your bikini bottoms and going full Hollywood. I'd suggest you ask for a Brazilian with a "landing strip" which is a strip of hair down the centre about 5 cm wide. The waxer may ask if you want her to remove "the underneath bit" or some similar phrase, which basically means that they remove the hair down beside and below the vaginal entrance, in between the beginning of your bum cheeks, IYSWIM. It's worth going with that as it feels all nice and clean and fresh for hot weather. I find that part is no more painful than the higher up bits, in fact I think the higher up bits smart a bit more.
As for the experience, it's fine if you just relax and hot wax is generally less painful than strip waxing, but neither is that bad. The therapist will put the flat of her hand on the bit she's just waxed and that takes away the immediate sting. It really does feel much much smoother than shaving and the regrowth isn't really stubbly. You might have red chicken skin flesh for a day or so but it will fade away leaving smooth natural skin. Good luck- you'll never look back!

Take some painkillers before your appointment, that will help if you're particularly sensitive.

I don't usually need painkillers and I have a Brazilian done before a beachy holiday.

Bit of an embarrassing question but how is the soft skin held taught, will the therapist ask me to do it?

She won't. Mine does everything; even when she's doing my arse area (TMI) all I have to do is just flip over and continue lying flat down.

What is the difference between strip wax and hot wax?

When I've been waxed she's applied warm wax with a spatula then ripped it off with a strip of cloth.

I had a thing called pink wax once which was like gum and hurt to fuck when striped off which was done by picking at the edge and then ripping. I was weeping with pain.

Don't say that Wips, the pink one is what I'm having because I thought it was less painful

Strip wax is removed with a cotton/paper strip. Only for legs/arms/chests/backs.

Hot wax is for everywhere else incl nostrils and eyebrows.

But strip wax is warm?

I found a bikini wax very painful compared to legs and underarms. Also I've never found anyone keen to do any intimate bits and never been asked to turn over or anything. One therapist said, I'm no good at this .

I had a bikini wax for the first time recently after many years of shaving. I'm so glad I did! It hurt way less than I thought it would and I would never go back. The regrowth is so soft and non-itchy, total opposite to shaving.

Would definitely recommend, I get a Brazilian and it takes about 15 mins start to finish

Never that's awful!! I get everything off from waist down, lie in a froggy position then raise legs above head for my bum hole to be done

It depends how experienced your therapist is?

I have a full Brazillian (so left with a landing strip, and no hair in my under-carriage). My therapist has been waxing for over 20 years, and she's very good (and bleddy ruthless, no hair is ever left behind).

I no longer find it painful, as I'm so used to it.

I had bikini waxes done three or four times a few years ago.

Each time I ended up with red, sore, ingrowing hairs afterwards.

We're having a summer holiday for the first time in years and I'm considering trying again.

Is there anything I could and should be doing to stop getting this problem again?

Strip wax and hot wax are both warm/hot.

Strip wax is for legs, anyone still using it for bikini lines hasn't updated their training in years.

Find someone that uses hot wax, which hardens and peels off. Ask for Lycon or an equivalent brand and you'll be fine.

I used to get a Brazilian and now don't bother with the strip and have a Hollywood which is everything off, even hair you had no idea you had.

Doesn't hurt, feels incredible and smooth and is perfect for holidays.

Can't believe people who day it doesn't hurt. I've had two natural births and for me a Brazilian really hurts!
Also, to op asking about holding the skin taught, I've been asked to stretch various bits of me, while doing poses my yoga teacher would be proud of.

It's not that it doesn't hurt, it's just that the pain is a short, sharp sting that goes away about a second after the hair has been pulled out. I have never had to sit on a bag of frozen peas or take painkillers

No I don't. I have had waxes by several different therapists at the same salon and they never want to do the underneath let alone get me to put my legs in the air.

That is very very unusual these days. A change of salons should solve the problem if you want a better wax.

So if I end up braving it, roughly how long should I let the hair grow before getting it waxed? That'll be the worst part for me I think!!

I wouldn't do it the day before your holiday. I get a red rash every time I wax that takes a few days to go away.

I think about half a cm is the recommended length, you might get away with 3mm.
