Navy blue prom suit (boy) - what colour shoes?

That really. DS was looking at black. DH reckons that in fashion shots and when worn in office jobs brown shoes are now the thing with a navy suit - although this is neither is working environment nor his 'look'.

I would have gone for black too - I want him to have things he can wear again in future if he needs a smart look.

What do others think?

Thanks Smile

It's a look amongst some to wear brown shoes with a navy suit (like in photo) but I think it's become a bit dated and it's not really a look I like. I'd suggest black too

If he has black shoes he'll wear them again, brown shoes are a bit daytime or casual Fridays.

CrispyBathTowel · 29/05/2017 10:07

A dark dark chocolate brown - almost black - would look OK too though imo

NotHotDogMum · 29/05/2017 10:15

Seems like the tend is brown shoes with blue suit, looks great IMO

OCSockOrphanage · 29/05/2017 12:09

Blue suede?

Highlove · 29/05/2017 14:00

Definitely brown. Or even sort of dark neutral, ifyswim? Only black if the look he's going for is someone's uncle at a wedding!! Nice brown shoes are hear at for smart casual and suited up.

Highlove · 29/05/2017 14:01

Blue would also look good but maybe not so useful for day-to-day.

haggisaggis · 29/05/2017 14:04

I would say brown is only for daytime and black for a formal evening thing but I am not fashionable at all so don't really know! (ds is wearing a kilt to his so we don't have this issue!)

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 29/05/2017 14:07

DS had a navy prom suit and insisted on dark brown brogues.

RedMetamorphosis · 29/05/2017 14:26

Brown for sure.

I'm in my mid 20s and every event I have been to in the past couple of years with blokes between 18-30 has them dressed in navy suits with brown shoes and brown belt.

JaneJeffer · 29/05/2017 14:33

Brown. DS and all his friends had brown shoes and belts with navy suits for their graduation like Crispy's pic. So much for individuality Grin

TitsalinaBumSquash · 29/05/2017 14:34

Brown!

titchy · 29/05/2017 14:40

Where are folks getting their prom suits from? Ds is skinny - 26 waist and short - 5'6' but doesn't want one from the kids section.... but smallest we've found are 28 waist which swamp him...

Anasnake · 29/05/2017 14:42

I got my very skinny ds suit from River Island - he is 26 waist and wanted skinny everything - trousers, shirt, ties etc . We got blue with brown shoes !! They had very limited stock though and Next had sold out in his size - obviously lots of skinny teenage boys all after the same suits.

TheFairyCaravan · 29/05/2017 14:46

DS1(22) has a navy blue suit. He's got a pair of deep burgundy brogues that he wears with it. They look really, really nice especially as everyone else has brown shoes on.

ggirl · 29/05/2017 14:50

get black
the blue suit and brown shoes look is dated

every wedding photo I see has the same look

skippy67 · 29/05/2017 15:43

Definitely brown. Every look dates eventually...

Doobigetta · 29/05/2017 17:07

I'd say brown for day, but black for formal evening wear.
