I need help finding a dress!

I have a daytime family event to attend in 2 weeks and am looking for a smart, flattering, cheap dress, ideally with capped sleeves.

I'm a size 16-18 with a 38DD chest and carry weight around my belly (I could pass for being pg) and my bum and hips.

I know - I'm expecting a lot, but any suggestions?

I think a wrap dress would be flattering on your shape, they look great with big boobs, nip you in an the waist and skim over your tummy. This one doesn't have capped sleeves but I think would look really good on your shape.

Fifties style dresses are very flattering with big boobs. Also the high waist and flared skirts help minimise the belly a bit.

Something like this or does it need to be smarter?

Does it have to be a dress? I am similar shape and dresses are tricky. Wrap dresses make me look pregnant, I have some really smart 7/8 trousers which I wear for most occasions, much easier to style.

bojorojo · 28/05/2017 11:02

I do not have much of a waist so nipped in dresses of any kind just do not work. I much prefer 7/8 trousers and a silk shirt. Or a longer flowing top. I have to say I do not shop where you suggest but I am sure you can sort something out in M&S or similar and it's not as if the clothes will be worn once. Separates have more options. If you want a dress look for a straight shift style or a shirt dress where you can just tie the belt loosely.

Thank you for your suggestions!

I'm a bit like Lucked in that wrap dresses make me look pg Confused ISO like the Tu dress and the black floral Wallis dress though.

What are 7/8 trousers?

Ok, I see they are kind of just above the ankle trousers.

I've never understood the love for wrap dresses and why those godamn awful Diane Furstenberg dresses get lauded to the skies. I've just found them a complete pain - whether in the days when I was a size 6 to what I am now, always worried about them flying open and a hassle when you sit down.

black
red skater
floral
green tea dress
pink
yellow

Just looking at Next, this is an example of what I might try on for a daytime summer event.

cream top
pink trousers
long necklace

SESthebrave · 28/05/2017 14:58

Lucked - that would make a lovely outfit and be the sort of thing that I could carry off. I do think I'd feel underdressed on this occasion though and need a dress or skirt and top. I'm really tempted to get it for another time though!

Fauxfox - thank you. The pink one is the one I think would suit me best. The double layer would hopefully skim over my belly!

The asos one is nicest, the other two are wintery. What is you budget?

SESthebrave · 28/05/2017 22:14

I don't really want to spend more than £50

I would order a pile from ASOS and return the ones that don't flatter you. I think with our shape you need to try on, I get it wrong all the time.

this might work
