Summer dress - is it too sack-like?

I haven't bought more than one summer dress in the last 14 years - when I returned to the UK. All my overseas dresses are wheeled out for the few days a year that we have hot weather. Found this (Next, £26) yesterday. Loved it on the hanger but it feels like a sack on me - is this what it's meant to look like, in MN view? I want to like it!!

I think it would be fine with cap sleeves but with the straps it looks a bit nightie. But I'm not the most stylish of people do feel free to ignore

LobsterQuadrille · 27/05/2017 06:33

That was exactly my thought (nightie) from the photograph!

I personally think that you are too petite for it, the dress is wearing you, rather than you're wearing the dress. It's not terrible but you look like you have a lovely figure so if I were you I'd get something that shows it off a bit more.

LobsterQuadrille · 27/05/2017 07:08

Ooh thank you Petal I like that! I think this one's going back. Agree about it wearing me too ... it's a size 6 (Next so not really a 6) so I assume it's meant to fit like this.

The shoes don't go with it. You need something more strappy or open toed.

namechange20050 · 27/05/2017 07:22

I think the dress is quite pretty. And the whole underwear as outer wear is very on trend.

NoCapes · 27/05/2017 07:28

Agree it looks like a nightie
But I'd just like to express how impressed I am that you're up, dressed and have hair and make up done at 6:30am on a Saturday!
You're like the grown up I wish I was

LobsterQuadrille · 27/05/2017 07:37

NoCapes I have a regular meeting .... one I've been going to for years and would rather I didn't have to go to! Just off now, not in that dress ....

Dress looks lovely on you. Its smart and stylish. I like how it is loose. I think it looks great.

LobsterQuadrille · 27/05/2017 12:12

Ah thank you neveradullmoment but I took it back. I did like it but it felt big, even though that must have been its style.

I like the look of it but can't find it on next's website - any chance of a link?

LobsterQuadrille · 27/05/2017 17:11

Allpizzas I've never used the Next website and I can't find it either - all the dresses seem to be Lipsy! Happy to go into my local Next and find an item number (or stock number) if you'd be interested?

Here's the number I hope:

I really like it! You look fab to me, but if you aren't comfortable in it then send it back.

Rockaby · 27/05/2017 18:01

On sorry you already have! Hope you find a nice alternative Smile.

LobsterQuadrille · 27/05/2017 18:05

Thank you! This was the alternative:

Thanks, I did see that dress on the website but thought it wasn't the one you were wearing, as it doesn't look metallic in the photo. I actually like the shape, but want something more casual than the metallic.
