Online shopping - sending it all back!

I need some new summer clothes and spent a fortune on the house of fraser website when there was an offer on last weekend, not intending to keep all of it but maybe about half. It's all going back.

I bought:
Mint velvet t shirt - nice enough but not worth £50
Lovely summer cotton dress from warehouse - uncomfortable around the chest
Navy blazer - ok but workish
Grey blazer - arms too long
Red blazer - nice fit but red is bit tomatoey
Quiz cold shoulder top - too sparkly
Stripy cold shoulder top - huge and unflattering
Ugg red flip flops - uncomfortable
White converse - great but too tight, will order next size up
Sparkly top - not keen
Check shirt - too tight
Biba strappy top - the only thing I might possibly keep, will try it on again later

Online shopping must be affecting profits especially as it was free delivery and returns. If I had tried all that on in the shop, I would have walked away with nothing.

Does anyone have more success than me with online shopping?

I'm quite shocked. That's a huge amount and glad that I don't own an online store right now

It's one of the reasons that I don't shop online.

I go to shops. I want to buy stuff in them; and not be told 'you can order it online' as if it was reasonable to have inadequate stock. Because if I'd wanted to do it that way, I wouldn'tt have come into the shop in the first place.

Sizing is so variable, whether it fits well on your body, the exactly look, feel and drape of the fabric are all better decided on in person.

And I really, really cannot be faffed with the time consuming option of dealing with deliveries (and returns)

I sometimes do the same with Asos, if it doesn't fit or you don't like it of course it has to go back!

Sometimes it's more successful though - have you looked on there, it includes loads of different brands

I think tbis happens because there is no consistency with sizing, quality is often not reflected in the pricing and websites don't always show colours accurately. Until companies fix this, then there will continue to be lots of returns.
I barely do any internet clothes shopping now. You can buy two dresses, same style and supposedly size, but different colours and they will not be an identical fit. I try everything on in store now.

I order Boden and then return about 75% out of it. I get multiple sizes/lenghts/ colors if the same item so I can decide which one is better. I see no issue with it. Works for me as I dont have time or nerves to spend in fitting rooms with a toddler in tow.

I have no choice sometimes as i am six feet tall with large feet, so the high street doesn't cater for me.
I regularly order from Gap tall, Levi's, Long tall Sally and Esprit....It's a faff but unavoidable.

House of Fraser has a thing into which you put the brands that fit you, and the size you are in them and it tells you what size you should order in what your're looking at.

But sometimes styles just don't work. Well done for being picky OP.

They make a profit as clothes are sold for more than they're worth. I find the faff of going to the post office annoying and a lot of people will just bung unwanted items into their wardrobes. Nowadays I online shop for things I can't get locally and where I know my size so I'm less likely to have to go to the post office. That's two shops for trousers/jeans/cords. Two shops for shoes. 1 shop for blazers/jackets. Bras one shop, pants another, socks a third. Tops I tend to use John Lewis and usually bung in other things like tea towels or cosmetics I know I'll keep but some of the tops do get returned.

I'd rather deal with the faff of dropping a parcel at the post office rather than wasting hours trawling shops trying stuff on, I find it easier to try stuff on at home

Like Zahara I order lots from Boden and return most of it. They seem quite happy with this business model and I get the try clothes at home and think about them for a while before deciding. Tbh I hate trying on in shops and having to decide there and then now.

I'd much rather shop for real. I find online shopping quite joyless and if more retailers bothered to open up in my city or stock their branches properly, I wouldn't have to do it. Their choice. As far as I'm concerned, if I send for something online, I'm only trying it on. Internet shopping saves retailers a fortune on premises and sales staff so I don't see anything wrong with sending it all back.

I've been finding sizing really inconsistent recently so a lot has been sent back. Recently ordered 3 dresses from Boden in the same size; one was too big, one was too small and one just looked awful on me. Had to exchange a coat from Asos to two sizes down because my usual size was huge. And the perfect jeans I found from M

It's put me off online shopping but I also can't easily get to the shops either.

I hate the bother of deliveries and returns but I do like the fact that I can try things on with different items, shoes etc that I already have.
It's also good for things like bras and shoes to wear them round the house for a bit to work out if they actually fit and feel comfy.

Some shops are worse than others at showing colours accurately. Monsoon is particularly terrible for this.
