Skinny kids clothing

I'm desperately searching for shorts for my skinny 2 year old. I've not found any that have adjustable bits inside. I have drawstring ones but they don't work. I resorted to a peg today to hold his wee shorts up. Please lovely mumsnetters, help spare my DS the shame of flashing his nappy to all and sundry x

Most shops do them with adjustable bits on the inside.

Oops sorry, posted too soon. Next, JoJo. Polarn and John Lewis all feature for my skinny three year old, always adjusted. But if uts shirts, can you not size down a bit. My skinny but tall three year old wore 18-24 months to nursery today!

HalfStar · 25/05/2017 20:05

Size way down and then some more. Primark had loads of cotton vests and shorts in different colours the other day. Elasticated waists. My skinny 2.5 year old is in 9-12 months and my skinny 5 year old is in 2-3 years 5 yr old tried on the 9-12 months and could fit in them too

hoopdeloop · 25/05/2017 20:32

I might have to do that, he is on the small side anyway, just managed to get him in 18-24 month jeans! Will have to get him to try the small stuff again!

I have a skinny tall 10 year old. He is still in some 7-8 shorts as he is so skinny however they are now shorter.

Passthecake30 · 25/05/2017 20:50

Make sure you buy long shorts and they will last for years. My 9 yr old can fit into his 5-6 yr ones.

H&M coloured jean type shorts and jean shorts come up narrow and Asda have some swimming shorts where the drawstring takes in the entire waist rather than just does a bow for appearance sake.
I also dart the waist of my children's joggers, leggings etc, at each side of the waist.

TheWorldHasGoneToCake · 25/05/2017 21:24

Mine is very skinny but so aged nearly 5 is in 3-4yrs and bought in either Next or M&S.

imjessie · 25/05/2017 21:55

Just size down if it's shorts ! Most tailored type shorts have a waistband thing inside but next do a slim range on some clothing on line .

eltsihT · 25/05/2017 21:57

I got some trousers from trespass that convert to shorts with the adjustable waist. But my 6yo still wears 2/3 size shorts as bigger ones fall down

Glittter · 25/05/2017 21:58

Just size down-if it's shorts tge length doesn't really matter. My 7yo still wears shirts that are age 2yo!

KatharinaRosalie · 25/05/2017 21:59

try Vertbaudet - they are very slim fit, and adjustable

bojorojo · 25/05/2017 22:10

Zara!!! Made for child models! Everything was great there for my skinny one.

RandomMess · 25/05/2017 22:13

My 11 year old has finally out grown her age 4-5 denim stretch shorts, she could still get them on but the usual acrobatics were a bit tricky!!!

MrsMarigold · 25/05/2017 22:17

Petit Bateau or almost any French brand, also we've had some good skinnies from Sainsbury's.

Mehfruittea · 25/05/2017 22:22

My tall slim 5.5 yr old is wearing football shorts age 2-3.

ShiningWhit · 25/05/2017 22:39

Gap do a super skinny range for kids. Massimo Dutti kids also are very slim. Zara is great as someone else mentioned.

Peppardew · 25/05/2017 22:43

Primark and la redoute come up nice and slim I've found

NennyNooNoo · 25/05/2017 22:52

We always size down by 1-2 sizes for shorts to get a better fit on the hips as well as the waist. DD (3) still wears some shorts in 12-18 months size. DS(12) still has some age 7 ones that just about fit - he didn't grow into them until he was at least nine. Shorts sizes are arbitrary as you can wear them at any length.

hoopdeloop · 26/05/2017 06:52

Thank you everyone, I think I've been a bit daft with my logic of, 'he is 2 so get 2-3'. He is my first so I'm going to say I'm still clueless! Will be raiding the attic for last years shorts!
