Allergy to sun screen

Hello - I wonder if you can help. I am allergic to all sun cream I have tried if it gets in my eyes, I cannot see and have to go to sleep to make my eyes better. If I take anti histamine then it's fine but I have to take it before I touch the cream.
Do you have any ideas as to why but also what it in the cream that does this? And any ideas of cream I can use instead?

I have some allergies and use La Roche-Posay factor 50 which doesn't give me any allergic reactions.

Can you be very careful about not applying it to your eye area and washing your hands after use? Then wear large sunglasses? Or a facial moisturiser with SPF around your eyes?

Have you tried purely mineral sunscreen (ie containing only zinc oxide or titanium dioxide and no "chemical" filters). That might be less likely to set off your allergies, but I warn you, they tend to be white and greasy :P

Comes in a mousse. Never drips or melts. Lasts ages. My toddler with crazy sensitive skin is fine with it.

My eyes stream when I use chemical sunscreens which is annoying as they are much easier to use under make up. My eyes stream so much I have almost burned the skin at the corners of my eyes! So painful.
Mineral sunscreens as someone mentioned above shouldn't cause allergies however they are not as cosmetically appealing due to the white cast. I've recently started using Ultrasun face anti ageing SPF 30 which contains titanium dioxide, so a mineral sunscreen but has other chemicals so I think is described as a mixture of chemical and mineral. I've been using it for about a month and my eyes have stopped running. It's brilliant! And it's great under make up. I think Marks sell small tubes for £4.50 if you wanted to try.

The trouble with applying and then washing hands is the re applying on the beach where I can't wash my hands properly.

You could take baby wipes to the beach with you?

All are based on physical not chemical sunscreens and are far better for young/sensitive/reactive skin

My son's eyes always streamed when I put sunscreen on him and his eczema flared. Started using ladival and he has no issues with it at all. It's expensive but was half price in boots last week, might be worth a try.

I have an allergy to most suncreams but I have found Boots No 7 works with my skin. Maybe ask to patch test a bit?
