Radley Bags what do you think of them?

Was thinking of getting this bag www.johnlewis.com/radley-grosvenor-medium-leather-shoulder-bag/p3085257

I have just turned 40, would it be considered old and frumpy for me to get a Radley bag. I have had my fair share of not so practicle high end designer bags (Dior, Prada, Gucci, Miu Miu), and haven't been impressed by the lack of practicality and quality. So looking for something different.

I love them I've got quite a lot.

TizzyDongue · 20/05/2017 20:30

They are hated on here OP. Properly hated; with unrelenting passion.

Personally though if you like it, and can afford it - go ahead.

Aeroflotgirl · 20/05/2017 20:32

Oh no, why is that Tizzy?

I actually think they are nice I picked one up from Cheshire oaks designer outlet today!

musicmomma · 20/05/2017 20:33

I like them! Why are they hated?

tigerdriverII · 20/05/2017 20:33

They are rather boring. I think they had their day a few years ago. Sorry

FlappyFish · 20/05/2017 20:33

Meh. I'm early thirties and I have a a few. I like the simplicity of them and the fact they have some great colours. The leather is lovely.

Greenteandchives · 20/05/2017 20:37

They last well, and are well made, but to me they are old-ladies-trying too-hard handbags. 'Ooh look at me , I've got a designer handbag'. Especially the appliqué ones.

GreenHairDontCare · 20/05/2017 20:37

I have the Thurloe and I love it. It's my favourite ever bag.

GreenHairDontCare · 20/05/2017 20:39

This one.

Radley Bags what do you think of them?
ScarlettFreestone · 20/05/2017 20:39

I have a few Radley bags which have survived 10 years of hard use commuting and are still in one piece.

If you like it who cares what anyone else thinks?

Aeroflotgirl · 20/05/2017 20:39

If think the new ones coming out are unfussy and quite stylish. Some like the one I liked, do not have the dog tag on it.

I really want a Grosvenor but they are never on sale in the plain black. I have several and they are soft, good sizes and I feel stylish with mine. I don't care what people think because I like them and it's me that has to use them.

TizzyDongue · 20/05/2017 20:43

No clue Aeroflotgirl!!!

If you search radley bags (as thread title only) it's fascinating!! I've got one though, a soft leather grap bag one and I like it.

Aeroflotgirl · 20/05/2017 20:43

That's a nice one scarlett, and, the grovesnor is on sale at John Lewis, at £114. Yes I agree, if you like it, so what!

Justdontgetitatall · 20/05/2017 20:46

Ooh I've been looking at some today!! Intrigued as to why they're hated?! X

KickAssAngel · 20/05/2017 20:46

About a decade ago they were quite twee, in a bit of an "older mum tries to look girly again" kind of way.

Newer stuff just looks quite functional.

I had a less twee one years ago and it lasted and lasted. In the end I almost wanted it to break so that I could justify a new bag.

queencerulean · 20/05/2017 20:49

I love my grosevenor although it's navy so I don't use it too much but it's a fab bag.

If it suits you and your style then it's not frumpy.

Aeroflotgirl · 20/05/2017 20:49

I got a £1000 Dior Granville bag from my husband one christmas, after a few months light wear it's practically falling apart and looking so battered.

Aeroflotgirl · 20/05/2017 20:50

Yes it is, love bags with compartment to put my inhalers, keys, etc

I quite like the look of them from a distance. It's only when I get close and see that bloody dog that I am put off.

Just as much as I don't like clothes with obvious designer displayed on it, I feel the same about bags and accessories.

TheweewitchRoz · 20/05/2017 20:51

I really like them & always have one for work - functional & smart. If you like it, don't worry about anyone else.

stoplickingthetelly · 20/05/2017 20:53

My mil loves them; she's 64. Probably a nice quality bag for the money, but at 35 I wouldn't want one.

Unicorn81 · 20/05/2017 21:01

Im younger and have a few radleys, love the colours and quality, go for it. The outlets have briliant savings

KickAssAngel · 20/05/2017 21:02

Ooh - they do have lots of pockets. I love pockets. DH just bought me a new backpack for my birthday, and I got very excited when I found that my computer fits in one of the pockets just perfectly!
