Saw this house from the outside today. Excellent location, but 'needs work'. A lot of work.

Am becoming addled with the whole school admission thing, too. I'll need an administrator to sort out this whole move thing, if we do it. Far too much hassle.

More pics here! Including fabulous original 1950s kitchen,

Quite liking that stage when yr dd has reached an age that you can share a joke so outrageously rude that it leaves you and her in tears. And yr dh completely baffled.

It's a gurl thang. Grin

NoCureForLove · 20/05/2017 20:52

Share Stropps - we like a good rude joke!

MsMartini · 20/05/2017 20:55

Crem, that is just gorgeous. You are so talented.

Loving the upcheering effect of an accidental jaunt, Stropps, sounds like just what the doctor ordered. Wetsuit? Tell me about wetsuits. I have toyed with getting one for years but am not sure I like the feel of them.

NoCureForLove · 20/05/2017 20:58

Who are you MsM??

NoCureForLove · 20/05/2017 20:58

Give us a clue...

Stropperella · 20/05/2017 21:01

I think it was a "you had to be there" sort, NoCure (love that song, btw). It was the priceless look on her face as she processed "What did my mother just say?" and then the way she did the nose trick as the penny dropped. And the complete bafflement of the other 2 members of the family. Altogether most satisfying.

MsMartini · 20/05/2017 21:01

Clue below Grin - gin and tights (and scroll up on WA).

Stropperella · 20/05/2017 21:05

I have 2 wetsuits, MsM. Although I am not sure if I can fit into either of them, as it's been a couple of years. They highlight one's crepey neck, unfortunately, due to being tight around that area. But they enable you to pretend that you sleek. In the way that quite chubby seals are sleek, in my case.

msmargarita · 20/05/2017 22:58

Herbs, what made you head for Broadstairs today? was it in your mind anyway? and have you ever been to the Dickens house there? I've always meant to go but never got further than beach and ice cream

DCs' old primary school jumble today. Went with DD. Scored toast coat and jumper £2.50 each. Which is v nice. But can't help feeling I've overlooked the chance to live it up while DH away having nice time. Which he is - I've seen pics from nightlife, football playing and post-spa table tennis plus he tells me the white dressing gown is setting off his tan nicely (tmi, given recent weather here).

IDismyname · 20/05/2017 23:42

MM and Stropps you are both right. With a dollop of a DS who's into an extreme sport.

I did ponder of the username 'I wandered lonely as a...' A bit obvious.

Anyway, hope you get the gist.

Meanwhile, my mobile is jammed with WA messages! Looking forward to reading those tomorrow.

That house in Broadstairs has what I would call 'good bones'. It's got a good sense of space in there. Amazing what you can get for the money once you move out a bit.

MsMartini · 20/05/2017 23:49

Mmm...sleek...not a word used about me normally...Grin

herbaceous · 21/05/2017 08:26

We thought broadstairs a we've been contemplating selling up and moving out of London, to release equity in the house, for a while. The plan would be to invest the 'change' in a rental cottage, or even London flat, for an income and pension pot, and to do work we actually like, near our new home.

We also want to be near the sea. But we want s town/city with its own life, history, culture etc. And of course good schools. We were thinking Newcastle suburbs (Whitley Bay, etc). It is it too far? Broadstairs seems to fit all the criteria, and is on the fast train to London so people might actually come and visit. Margate is cool but probably too gritty. Ditto Ramsgate. We've done our share of living in edgy areas while they regenerate.

FlipflopsOrWellieboots · 21/05/2017 09:16

I think it sounds fantastic, Herbs. Does dp need to go into London daily? Might be worth checking the train fares.

I love the sea, and even though we are close, I'd prefer to be closer (so I can smell it!)

magimedi · 21/05/2017 09:26

I think Broadstairs sounds fab. I love living near the sea.

I've lived up North (Scotland) and the one thing (as a softy Southerner) I found was the very short days in the winter enormously depressing. All I wanted to do (& did!) was sleep & eat.

motherinferior · 21/05/2017 09:40

What are they like for effnic mix, Herbs? Margate is one of the few places DP (who has his Bangladeshi father's colouring) and a black colleague have felt very uncomfortable in the way other people looked at/treated them a few years back. He told me this ok an otherwise v pleasant day trip to Margate a couple of years ago.

msmargarita · 21/05/2017 09:52

Anyone see this column by janice turner? www.newstatesman.com/politics/health/2017/05/good-daughter

And anyone, Crem?, have sciatica? Looks likely that's what I have.

motherinferior · 21/05/2017 09:57

Ain't that the truth.

herbaceous · 21/05/2017 09:58

Interesting re effnic, MI. It was indeed very white. Though apparently there are lots of language schools, which introduce a bit of a mix (and provide me with an income!) It will be strange for DS - his current class school is only about one third white British.

motherinferior · 21/05/2017 10:01

In a rare S&B moment I have discovered that Bobbi Brown's Red Carpet, trialled in Johnny Loulou's yesterday is the lipstick for me. I shall splash out, as a woman working on another makeup counter told me to get it and MrsK's first remark was "great lippie"even before "that's your drink". Grin

MrsKlugscheisser · 21/05/2017 10:03

Lots of grinding poverty in Margit once you are away from the twee centre. And a lot of Eastern European Rroma in Cliftonveeee

MrsKlugscheisser · 21/05/2017 10:03

Cliftonville. Fucking phone.

NoCureForLove · 21/05/2017 10:13

2 of my best lippies are Bobbi Brown - Hollywood and Old Hollywood- vibrant red and pink respectively. Nice texture, no off putting fragrance and decent staying power. And not ridiculous money... compared to the likes of Tom Ford.

Cremolafoam · 21/05/2017 10:16

Oh Marg what a nightmare, you poor soul. Sodding sciatica is The Pits. Stropps will concur.
So have they looked at your back to see if you have a slipped disc? Or is the nerve being pressed elsewhere? Oh I'm so sorry. Sad hope the pain is tolerable ATM.

Herbs, hope you slept well last night, with all that there thinking you did yesterday. Very exciting if you decide to do for it. Grin Pancakes are behind you!Smile
