Flipflops - so glad you had a good day - it sounds lovely - especially the pint of cider Wink. I'd have had to sleep for the rest of the afternoon after that.

Here, it has still been boiling - up to 30 difficult in the classroom.

bigTillyMint · 29/05/2017 19:42

Cider at lunchtime sounds good, Wellies - what festival were they at?

Hatty, have you got fans for the classroom?

msmargarita · 29/05/2017 20:07

MI, I emailed Bravissimo recently when this happened to me and they were fine to refund just apologetic it hadn't worked. Don't stick with it, don't worry about the pounds. Not relevant. It needs to work and be comfortable, I think.

Blooming odd weather. I'm hot, cold and inbetween at the same time.

Fitflops, reckon the pint of cider was appropriate emolument (?) for hardcore gardening. What was the crap film? and was it enjoyable.

I've just polished off Curtis Sittenfeld's Eligible. Looked forward to it for ages as loved Prep and American Wife but uneven and disappointing. Austen not sufficiently digested and discarded. OTOH sitting in quiet peaceful house reading with cup of tea was v lovely.

motherinferior · 29/05/2017 20:21

Ooh, I shall definitely do that. Thank you!

I'm slightly feeling the 'don't keep it for best' vibe at the moment. Wear nice clothes and be comfortable. Every day.

Watching the Handmaid's Tale. Amazing.

bigTillyMint · 29/05/2017 20:37

I agree MI re wearing nice clothes whenever, though can be ill-advised in my job!

msmargarita · 29/05/2017 20:45

MI - totally agree. Nice clothes. Comfortable clothes. Every day. Crepey pledge.

FlipflopsOrWellieboots · 29/05/2017 21:21

Working at a curry stand at a festival for friends of friends!!! She's knackered but earned £160 so happy!

Crap film called 'Death at a Funeral' which was British, funny but predictable....

hattymattie · 29/05/2017 21:26

Love love love The Handmaid's Tale - am naughtily on episode 5 - it is chilling.

CV - love the decking.

BTM - no fans - we were just discussing buying some today - it'll be down to us to get them and reclaim on expenses!

IDismyname · 29/05/2017 21:46

Hatty - Howd'dya get to Episode 5??

I read the book eons ago, and loved it - but have forgotten most of it. I found it absolutely captivating, and my mind has wandered back to it a number of times today.

DH was Shock when I told him it was 10 episodes long.

MsMartini · 29/05/2017 21:59

I didn't like the book much, though have liked some of her other work.

Cremolafoam · 29/05/2017 22:05

Oh no John (Blue Peter) Noakes has died, forgive my soppiness over a children's tv presenter's passing.Sad

Blackduck · 29/05/2017 22:15

Yes MI as in new M&S ad - 'no saving for best'. Wear the bloody stuff!!!

I have become a convert to padded t-shirt bras - who would have thunk it - but I like the fact they don't cut across the top... They still dig in everywhere else as every bra does. I hate my boobs.

hattymattie · 30/05/2017 06:46

I can talk to nobody here about John Noakes - this is why I love the Crepies - when I watched Blue Peter it was Valerie, Peter and John - accompanied by Petra, Patch and Jason the cat!! Interestingly, they used to do historical stories in cartoon strip form - Marie Antoinette, Mary Anning (fossils), Anne Franck - I still remember these - brilliant way to teach a little history.

Airborne- streaming - I'm going to wait for the TV now. I cannot understand how there are 10 episodes as they are pretty much done with the book by episode 5- episode 6 could wrap it up.

bigTillyMint · 30/05/2017 07:23

John Noakes Sad He was always so funny.

IDismyname · 30/05/2017 07:48

I loved John Noakes, too.

Blue Peter was a huge part of my childhood.

He used to apparently live near our old house, just down the road. The garden had a footpath running through it, so it was always referred to 'The John Noakes Walk'.

I am absolutely fixated by The Handmaids Tale. Forgotten what a fab book it was. Trying to decide whether to binge watch as much as poss, or maybe re read the book. I know DH will not put up with watching it for the next 9 weeks.

motherinferior · 30/05/2017 08:01

Can't find my copy but know it practically by heart despite not touching it for 25 years!

motherinferior · 30/05/2017 08:02

Aha, it's right up there with the As...

Where were we? Flipping those darn flat pancakes again
MsMartini · 30/05/2017 08:18

Loved Joh Noakes too. Much more of a naughty twinkle that ?Peter P

Stropperella · 30/05/2017 08:37

Yes, I liked John Noakes too. And Shep. I always got a Blue Peter album in my Christmas stocking. Simpler times....

MsMartini · 30/05/2017 08:46

I know. Lovely video came up on my FB feed of John climbing Nelson's column.

bigTillyMint · 30/05/2017 08:58

I think I have all my old BP annuals up in the loft stillBlushGrin

Rosenspants · 30/05/2017 09:30

Blue Peter was indelibly part of my childhood and I had a great affection for John Noakes. Actually I'm more upset that he suffered from dementia in his latter years than his actual passing. Sad

I read The Hand Maids Tale years ago...love a bit of Atwood. There is such horrific fascination in the way she treats her subject matter.
And the mediaeval behaviour in a modern world...I'm going to love this series...no spoilers, Hatty lol. Grin DH fell asleep....

I weighed myself this morning, and a small loss this week but at least it was a loss, rather than a gain. I felt so ill on that temp HRT. I still had a lot of cramps yesterday and my fingers feel fat and swollen as is my stomach. I am now off to meet BFF in the village for some breakfast whilst DH is on revision duty

hattymattie · 30/05/2017 10:14

My DH is paying attention - his enjoyment is punctuated by random comments from me along the lines of "men are such bastards".

Have looked at the TV addicts thread and apparently Margaret A is in the scene in episode one where they accuse Janine. Also, apparently there is a series 2 scheduled. What is good is that Margaret A is involved in the production.

herbaceous · 30/05/2017 10:24

I watched it on Sunday, but it was after much champagne and I kept falling asleep. And when I was awake couldn't make out what they were saying. Feel I may have to watch it again!

Lovely evening yesterday with DP's old landlady/lord, who are also good friends. Well, were. We used to see them lots, then they just went a bit crap and never returned calls, etc. But they're such good fun that as soon as they got in touch we jumped at the chance for some 'pants'. They've 'architected' their Hackney flat, and put a studio in the garden, along with the nose cone of an aeroplane and an amazing play frame, so all the kids were in heaven.

DS's BFF round here all day today, so they're writing a song. So far, DS's line is 'I'm a damsel in distress, and I'm wearing a dress'.

MrsWobble3 · 30/05/2017 10:28

Am on south coast waiting on the boat with dd2 whilst dh and dd1 take sail to the sailmaker to repair yesterday's damage. Have just put dd3 on train to go home for further revision (her choice as she doesn't like sailing much). Am feeling like terrible mother - not just failing to provide Snacks and Structure but also the more basic requirements of Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. I did consider going back with her but (a) she didn't want me too and (b) after a few days of rubbish weather it looks like there's wind today and (c) dd1 is going home tomorrow so there's another bail out option then. I still feel like a Bad Parent though.

I share the BP nostalgia but may miss the MA as I read the book and didn't much like it. A long time ago so don't really remember why.
