Rose, the clothes this year seem awful to me. If anyone needs light relief my search for a graduation dress that doesn't make me look like a teapot is barely off the ground.

bigTillyMint · 24/05/2017 09:19

MrsM, have you got anything in mind? Just wondering about the local indepent shops?

MsMartini · 24/05/2017 09:23

In my local hipster market? or on the lane where we have had a mU?

MsMartini · 24/05/2017 09:24

And no, probably quite plain and not like a teapot is as far as I have got! Have been looking in charity shops (partly because and partly because of the cut out thing) but may have to go to a posher area.

magimedi · 24/05/2017 09:32

THIS is an interesting S&B thread bemoaning the current fashion. And if you wade through it there are some recommendations of retailers I'd never heard of.

magimedi · 24/05/2017 09:33

And Jaeger have got a massive sale on line, if you are wanting to go 'posh'!

FlipflopsOrWellieboots · 24/05/2017 10:27

Phase Eight seems to have 20% off, so I've just nabbed the dress I had previously linked to (and that Rose helped me choose in person).

It really is comfy and definitely allows for overeating!

motherinferior · 24/05/2017 10:34

I ahem found myself in the Pimlico Sue Ryder en route to a postponed meeting and picked up a rather fab Ghost silk-velvet number for £12. It has buttons up the side which require the assistance of Peter Capaldi another and strikes a lovely funky-casual note.

MsMartini · 24/05/2017 10:37

Oooh lovely dress, Wellies (not a phrase I thought I would ever write).

I like that thread, Magi, very soothing. Will have a look at Jaegar and Phase 8. I really need to try dresses on - have owned the grand total of three in my adult life because they so rarely fit me properly.

motherinferior · 24/05/2017 10:38

Am now waiting for colleague in a lovely Pimlico garden where preschoolers are frolicking delightfully, reminding me of DD1 and her besties (one now a bestie again one her boyf) at same age. All of whom have physics today...

FlipflopsOrWellieboots · 24/05/2017 10:45

Yup, physics here too and maths tomorrow, then half term....Yay!

FlipflopsOrWellieboots · 24/05/2017 10:56

I'm tempted to team the dress with these shoes and a string of grey pearls (that I've just had restrung).... I know they are flats, but I want to dance the night away at this wedding!

bigTillyMint · 24/05/2017 11:05

Wellies, I say go fpr flats - i bought and wore heels for my cousins wedding recently and i couldnt wait to take them off as soon as we sat down to eat. I didnt put them back on till we left Grin

MrsM, I have PMd you!

bigTillyMint · 24/05/2017 11:07

And wellies, I love that dress, but fear it would be a mini on me Sad

Though the model is taller than me... What is the length like?

FlipflopsOrWellieboots · 24/05/2017 11:25

It shows the knee, but not the fat bit above the knee IYKWIM Grin

Wedding isn't until September so sheer grey ish tights could be good and I'll have to search for some sort of wrap/coat/jacket thing

Cremolafoam · 24/05/2017 11:58

Pearly grey with red is lovely , Wellies. What about a grey feather shrug or might that be too much?
It will still be relatively mild in September. I might risk a grey sandal?

Kitchen design meeting this afternoon. Last one bullied me out of things I really wanted ( wooden worktops, ceramic sink) it is a country kitchen fgs not a NY loft ( concrete/black/exposed industrial cabling.)

I can't get your linky to work, Crem.....

FlipflopsOrWellieboots · 24/05/2017 13:15

I know this link is whizzing around on lots of threads, but I was really struck by it....

Rosenspants · 24/05/2017 13:37

I'm always crippling myself in heels and I always regret it so maybe it's good advice to go for flats...but I might have been tempted by a gorgeous sparkly sandal as September is hardly winter... Hmm

I feel a bit better having banked a few cheques from clients , and am about to invoice for last week's weekend teaching gig and a full course that ends tonight. All about the money...me. Blush

sounds lovely MI l love Ghost. They have recently opened a vast shop front in our mall, but everything looks so slinky, and the fabric is like it would show up every lump and bump which I have in spades.

The forecast seems lovely for half term as I am looking forward to a week at the flat. wellies are you around?

herbaceous · 24/05/2017 15:58

I'm treating myself to a post-work trip to the Walthamstow mall, for some possible new shoes and a new eyeliner - Jerry has chased my favourite under a piece of furniture.

Shoes brief is tight - comfy, flat, airy, not trainers, supportive, groovy, can be worn with skirts or trews. And I only have Clarks to look in...

Stropperella · 24/05/2017 16:13

I am deep in the bowels of Weymouth hospital, waiting for my appointment at the muskulo-skeletal clinic. Half-term from paid job started at 1.30, but case study school is still going, so will teach there on Fri. Back to paid work next Wed, but no case study teaching next week.

Today am wearing a dress I wore to my Granny's 90th birthday. Which was 26 years ago. The dress was too big for me then, but fits now. Grin It's been lurking in a charity bag for months. But I had second thoughts and decided it would do for work.

herbaceous · 24/05/2017 16:26

There's a term for that in the Meaning of Liff: Broats. Tweed trousers belonging to a colonel, which got relegated to 'gardening' when he retired, but have subsequently been resurrected as 'best' as funds dwindle.

bigTillyMint · 24/05/2017 16:37

Stropps, that's great - bet it's lovely.

Cremo I love the shrug/shruf and sandals. And the sink looks very appropriate for a country kitchen.
