Though I suppose there are people who fantasise about Edwardian underwear, and as these look exactly like combinations, there might be people who'll buy.

(Actually, the modern ones in the video didn't look too bad. However, I can't see DH, who is normally quite adventurous in clothes, wearing one.)

If worn for playing sports or running, it is usually a compression layer (which is meant to do something useful about blood flow and minimising lactic acid production) or if it's frigging cold it'll be a thermal layer (with or without compression). Shorts are warn to prevent lunchbox display.
