Just read this - so true.

www.the-pool.com/fashion/fashion-honestly/2017/20/sali-hughes-on-the-british-high-street-dressing-women-over-35

I too long for those 'flattering frocks, neat at the shoulders, sleeves and neck, but with enough fabric around the middle to invisibly accommodate a bottle of red and more than 19 calories ...'

I'm 38, 5'10, size 12/14. I shop in Uniqlo, COS and, every now and then, GAP (mostly for their denim ranges). For a rare treat, I splash out on Anthropolgie or Sezane. There is nothing much else on the high street that appeals (or fits!).

6 years ago I started sewing my own clothes to plug the gaps. It makes up 70% of my wardrobe now - I dread to think what I'd wear if I couldn't sew!!

SirVixofVixHall · 19/05/2017 11:51

Want2be, clarks sometimes do that to me too. The wider fit is often still very almond at the toe. A true wide foot (eg a foot that isn't wide because it is a bit podgy, but would be wide even if you were very thin) is usually wider at the toe joint and needs a less pointed toe. I can't buy my dd shoes from Clarks for this reason. She's a size 5 and a half, wide, but with a thin heel as she is v skinny. There is nothing that fits, because Clarks tend to be wide at the heel but narrow at the toe. The suede wallabies etc do fit me because they are soft.

QueenoftheAndals · 19/05/2017 12:15

M&S's autumn collection. And while it looks very nice on the website, I'm not sure I'd wear any of it.

Ollivander84 · 19/05/2017 12:35

People with boob issues
Can I recommend here http://www.biubiu.pl/lang/en
It's like bravissimo clothing but cheaper, and better cut and fabrics. A lot of the dresses are cotton with a bit of elastane, there's a size chart to match up waist and boobs and they have dresses with sleeves. Ships from Poland

Ollivander84 · 19/05/2017 12:39

I forgot urkye too http://urkye.pl/en_US/index same principle, also Poland clothes (website lists in zloty so just convert to pounds)

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 19/05/2017 12:40

That M and S collection is irritating me already. Why the big flappy sleeves on the cuffs of that grey shirt? Why have velvet (warm to wear) with 3/4 sleeves?

Gaagh

QueenoftheAndals · 19/05/2017 12:51

That's interesting Ollivander as I used to work with several Polish women who said they found it so hard to find clothes in the UK as they were spoiled for choice back home.

Emoji, that review doesn't include this gem.

Ollivander84 · 19/05/2017 12:52

Queen - I have a couple of dresses from both sites and the cut is night and day
Rubbish pic as I had thrown it on but this is a biubiu one. I'm 34K and it fits perfectly bust and waist

Also, WTF is with the "statement sleeves"? Just give me a regular sleeve! Which in winter means a long sleeve, not fucking three-quarters, which most stores seem to feature. To think M&S were once so good too - in 2007 I bought 2 pairs of Limited Collection black leggings and they only started to go at the knees last year, when the lycra started to wear. I've not found any leggings that compared since. Uniqlo's Heattech ones are fine with boots but look a bit unfinished around the ankle.

QueenoftheAndals · 19/05/2017 12:56

Oh I recognise you from a few makeup groups Ollivander, if that doesn't sound too stalky!

Ollivander84 · 19/05/2017 12:58

Ah not at all! I don't post anything exciting on here except for skincare/clothes/cat stuff Grin

SirVixofVixHall · 19/05/2017 13:01

Ollivander- your cat. With his tongue out.
I'm going to look at those Polish sites. I think the one I linked to is Ukrnanian? I buy my bras and nighties from Poland already.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 19/05/2017 13:29

And co ordinated (or rather not) with black boots and bag.🤢🤢🤢🤢

shinynewusername · 19/05/2017 13:47

Oh dear god this

SirVixofVixHall · 19/05/2017 13:51

That yellow outfit is beyond ugly. It the sort of thing a small child might design.

SirVixofVixHall · 19/05/2017 13:53

Shiny that page....Envy (That's nauseous rather than envious in this context, obv..)

angelcakerocks · 19/05/2017 13:56

On what planet does anyone think that hideous M&S yellow monstrosity is what women want to wear Shock Shock It doesn't even look good on a model. I can't imagine a normal person in it. It would flatter no-one.

While I understand about the cost maybe being higher for the good quality clothes we'd like, what' mystifying is why mens clothes aren't nearly as bad, nor are they especially expensive.
How on earth have designers and retailers become SO out of touch with what women actually might want to wear and feel good in?

SirVixofVixHall · 19/05/2017 14:06

True about menswear. I can buy decent knits and good quality cotton trousers for Dh easily. Nice shirts aren't hard to find. Imagine if all men's shirts were polyester? Er..on second thoughts..don't. Uggh.
My SIL is childless and in a well paid job, so plenty of disposable income. She buys Cabbages and Roses a lot, and always looks lovely, but their things are so expensive and I don't think they work on the busty.

Zxyzoey31 · 19/05/2017 14:10

Personally I love a high neck line. Hated all those years of v necks, it is a cycle things come around again.
Also I like a shortish skirts, I find knee length frumpy. Thing is not all ladies in their 30s, 40s etc want the same thing. I have found some lovely things this year, no cold shoulder and only one thing with ruffles, a t-shirt from M&S which sold out really quickly.
Agree about natural fabrics but I was told people just like to wash and hang clothes so like polyester etc. Somebody must want it.

colouringinagain · 19/05/2017 14:10

Completely agree with Sali and mumsnetters.

I am finding it impossible to find anything at all this year.

I like the uniqlo, other stories etc style but as a pear shaped 5'2 am completely the wrong shape 😔 I've found one top in H&M this year (but doesn't look like it will survive being washed), one top in mango and jeggings in Dorothy Perkins. I buy more in charity shops at the moment but would prefer to get more new!

Seriously frustrating!

nina2b · 19/05/2017 14:15

I like the yellow and black thing - on the model.

Squashit · 19/05/2017 14:26

I think the yellow offering is mingtastic
