Easy and impressive girls' hairstyles

'That's not a proper french plait' said DD1's annoying friend at school today. She's 8. To be fair I am crap at hairstyles but DD1 said she defended me valiantly by saying how hard I'd tried. Anyway how can I get the little bleeder friend to be wowed by my hairstyling abilities... without actually having any? Any good and easy tricks?

I'm also crap with hair and dd won't sit still so it's a bad combination.

Our local hairdresser runs workshops so I'm booking on one of those when I get back from holiday! Then I can practise on a model and not a squirming child.

YouTube look for easy plaits or easy hairstyles. Often then are several different ways of doing a style takes a while to work out which one works with your abilities.

Look at fishtail plaits, really easy and look lovely!

Right I reckon I can manage a fishtail plait. That should set the plait among the pigeons boom tish (sorry). I'm with you on the wriggling child onemorecake, that doesn't look too pull-y either.

A "twist" is easy. Pony tail, split into two sections. Twist both in a clockwise direction (get child to hold end of first section as you twist the second section). Then twist the two sections together in an anticlockwise direction. Bobble at end.

The beauty of a fishtail is they look best a bit messy. Also try to do it to the side as that looks good too and a bit different.

Watching here, as also trying to be a bit more adventurous with DD's hair. She's 8 too, and it's the first time she's ever really cared what I do to her hair.
