Interview Tights

Will I look silly wearing black opaques to an interview if it's warm? I have an interview dress but I always wear it with black tights and I'm a bit Hmm because it's quite warm and sunny.

I can't help but am looking forward to any answers - I also have an interview next week and was wondering the same thing!

Chewbecca · 10/05/2017 11:48

You'll be fine as long as the outfit is smart/appropriate. It is only May & many people wear opaques all year round anyway. I also rarely see the legs of people interview as they're on the other side of the table!

Zahrah5 · 10/05/2017 12:11

I think opaque are more casual. For business formal attire I would go with nude or at least 20den black.

MyHairNeedsASnip · 10/05/2017 12:13

Thanks, I'll get some nude and see which ones look best. Good luck Uretha!

My personal view is nude tights are more professional. If the weather is like it is today, I think black opaques might be too warm. Maybe go with sheer black tights if you don't want to wear nude ones? Either way, I don't think the interviewers will judge you for it.

OutToGetYou · 10/05/2017 15:49

Nude is more professional but opaque won't be a problem (depends a bit what else you are wearing), nor will they be too warm - it was 2 deg when I left for work this morning and frost on the windscreen, not sure where 'warm' comes into that at all. I am still in my opaques, but have ditched the boots now so back in loafers.

I do opaques and boots for winter, opaques and loafers for spring and autumn, nude 15-20 denier and loafers for summer! I'd like to wear sheer black in the summer with some outfits but they look awful when they catch on things and pull and ladder, whereas with nude you can barely see it.

Tazerface · 10/05/2017 18:47

Ooooh divisive subject OP! Grin

Personally I won't wear opaques past April and before September as I think they look odd.

Having said that, I don't think they look odd enough that it will hamper your chances in an interview.

Good luck!

ilovecherries · 10/05/2017 19:55

All I will say is that I've been interviewing people for senior roles most of my working life. And can safely say I have never in that time judged any woman on her leg wear. I don't think your tights indicate the level of professionalism you will bring to the role.

MyHairNeedsASnip · 10/05/2017 20:05

That's what's niggling me, if it were April I'd be wearing the opaque tights and not give it a second thought.

I think I've changed my mind on the outfit now, the dress I was going to wear is quite tweedy looking and warm so I think I'm going for navy with nude tights and nude heels depending on the weather. Roll on next week, I'm very excited!

I tend to wear grey semi-opaques for summer formality.

Crumbs1 · 10/05/2017 20:07

Marks do cooling tights that are fine in warmer weather.

OutToGetYou · 10/05/2017 21:28

Well, I had a look round as I walked to the Tube this evening and more women were wearing opaques than any other tights.

Good luck for the interview (I agree, I interview all the time and the only thing that raises an eyebrow really is too short skirts and unironed shirts).

thedevilinablackdress · 10/05/2017 22:26

No-one reasonable is going to judge you on your tights. Wear what you'd normally wear. Sheer tights might just add to the stress what with the potential for snaging and laddering.

bojorojo · 10/05/2017 22:58

Depends on the job! Nude looks better in May I think. Navy sounds a good idea. Hope it goes well.

OOAOML · 11/05/2017 11:36

Semi opaque? 30 or 40?

A lot of women in the office here wear opaques year round. And with my track record of ripping thinner tights I personally wouldn't take the risk for an interview.

elliey · 11/05/2017 23:31

I think nude would look better but glancing around on the commute this morning alot of people are still wearing opaque tights so I could be in the minority.
