I'm really in style rut.

I wear skinny jeans, flats or boots and loose tops, those sort of chiffony batwing type affairs

I'm 5ft 45 and 'curvy' would be a kind word to describe me.

If you were me what new style would you try? I'm not going to be super comfy in anything formal...any ideas - tops especially would be great.

TIA

I'm no style guru but I favor dresses, with tights and boots. I'm 5'9 and a size 14 with big boobs and I like the fit and flare or skater styles the most as they hide my tummy and give the illusion of a waist below my boobs. I have good legs so all in all it's a look that suits me. Is there any famous people with a similar shape you admire as that would be a good starting point. Maybe to the Trinny and Susannah body shape test! I know it's really old now but the ideas are still valid!

Thanks Buster - what's the shape test?

It helps you do figure out what suits you. Like Apple, Pear, Column shape. Once you've got an idea of your shape you'll know how to dress. I'm a goblet apparently so I know that pencil styles only make me look bigger around the middle and A lines even out my tummy and slim legs.

Anycakeisgoodcake · 11/05/2017 14:34

Oh that sounds helpful I'm sure that's half my problem, that I am wearing the wrong 'shapes'

I'll have a google and see what I can find, thank you

I'm glad I can help, saying just curvy could mean a million shapes you see, I'm curvy because I have big knockers but my hips aren't big and my bum and legs are reasonably slim. Once you've realized what shape You are I think you will then find clothes shopping easier.

BusterGonad · 11/05/2017 14:40

Trinny and Susannah are the best, Google them and take the quiz, the clothes will be outdated but the advice they give won't!

Anycakeisgoodcake · 11/05/2017 17:52

I'll try it. I'm afraid curvy is my euphemism for I've got a waist and a big tummy. Fabulous boobs and a squishy arse.

I'm pretty comfortable with my shape I just don't feel I have spent much time thinking about what feels great to wear if you see what I mean. I was saying in another thread I have a super stylish friend who always looks so well put together and I have an airy idea I'd like to be the same. Sadly my asd son doesn't have a very high tolerance for my making my self look too 'posh' so I've let that dictate for a while and it's time for a change.

Op I'm not knocking you, honestly, your figure sounds great, it just might help you to pin point what suits you a bit easier that's all! Grin

Anycakeisgoodcake · 11/05/2017 18:50

I didn't think you were knocking me at all, I'm really sorry it came across like that Cake

Good, I'd hate for my post to be read the wrong way! Grin

OP, I'm moreorless same height and build as you.

There are or were some really nice dresses in &otherstories that I bought (same style). But skater style dresses or fit and flare work as they skim over the curvier areas.

I did like long pleated skirts and bought a sort of wrap shirt dress but the shape isn't quite right.

Ha! And I've just seen what Buster posted is my advice too!

Anycakeisgoodcake · 11/05/2017 20:53

Fab thanks I'll check that out too Smile

Do you like your legs? If you have big boobs and a waist then loose tops and skinny jeans probably aren't best, you'd need tops that are tailored to come in under your boobs to show off your waist - peplum kind of style. A loose top would just hang off your boobs and hide the waist.
