Zip problems

So I have a lovely shift dress from sainsburys, so not mega expensive. Sadly the zip has just given up working at the point where it crosses a seam. It just about does up when I'm not wearing it, but I cannot get it done up when I'm wearing it, even if someone else tries to do the zip up and we try to straighten the fabric.

Any bright ideas, as I really love the dress!

Is it that it's stiff or is there damage to the zip? For stiffness you could try rubbing a candle on the teeth at the tight point. If the zip is just knackered then you could have it replaced, it's not usually a difficult / hugely expensive job.

A replacement dress from ebay (if you can find one) might be cheaper than replacing the zip mind. Depends on prices in your area and the way the dress is made.

I think it's stiff, the fabric kind of gets closer to the zip where the seam is under the fabric, I tried a candle but that did nothing :-(

Oh! Are you sure it's not fabric physically blocking the zip? The seam or ending of the zip being totally flattened and just getting in the way. Maybe?
