Wedding guest outfit for short round person?

Chewbecca · 07/05/2017 18:02

Any ideas welcomed!

I'm 5ft 0 and size 16/18. Large tum/thick waist, large upper arms and thick legs.

I really need to shrink but in the meantime I really need an outfit for a fairly traditional June wedding if anyone has seen anything suitable.

Colour wise, I am a HoC Deep summer so the cooler deeper version of colours really are best on me if that makes any sense. I avoid polyester if poss.

Please point me in the direction of any great outfits you've spotted pls! Preferably easy to deliver & return, no set budget, I guess up to £200 would be ok for something really good as I will have the opportunity to wear again.

Thanks in advance.

Check out the Gina bacconi website they have some flattering dresses there

RandomMess · 07/05/2017 18:38

I'm 5' too - I would just look through all the petite collections.

I'm apple shaped and go for straight or slight A-line shift dresses with a V-neck where possible.

Do you have an idea of what does suit you?

jeaux90 · 07/05/2017 18:39

There is a Gina one which is straight with a chiffon cape. Looks lovely

I'm searching for an Ascot outfit so been doing a lot of surfing Grin

Or do you look better in a skirt and to with jacket?

SaucyJack · 07/05/2017 18:51

I'm also 5' and round, and my advice would be to go for a classic knee-length wrap dress in a naice darkish neutral colour fabric- and then spend your money jazzing it up with whatever funky or glam shoes/bags/accessories appeal to your taste.

Anything else just makes one look like a sofa on two stumpy legs when one is less than average height.

I have to say wrap dresses really look awful on me, I keep trying them on but I'm a true apple shape and they don't work. Order lots, try them on and see what looks good. Hopefully you can ace a wrap dress I'm gutted I don't!

Gosh, when I saw Jacques vert and Gina baconni, I thought they would be super mature dresses but I am pleasantly surprised, thank you for encouraging me to look at them when I wouldn't otherwise have tried. I didn't realise they did petite ranges either.

I've done well with Fenn Wright Manson petite clothes before.

The JV Kyoto bloom dress is in now my basket, will click and collect that one and give it a try it on, thanks. Only 18 available but since it is 'petite', that might be better.

The green JV one is only in a 10 so that's out. Prob no good anyway as I also have a spotty back! I can scrub up ok, honest!

The AP berry one is just my colour but looks too small/skimpy for a larger person to me and is only left in little sizes too.

Wrap dresses look awful on me too - I feel they accentuate my lack of waist. V /scoop necks are flattering. Dresses that have shape rather than sacks /too flowy tend to be better too.

Jacket/skirt combos seem a bit dated to me?

Def with you on ordering loads and trying them all on, you never know when one might be the one.

is this the chiffon cape dress you say is nice jeaux?

MrsLettuce · 07/05/2017 19:38

this one is stunning

Chewbecca · 07/05/2017 19:38

Does anyone know how the Gina B dresses fit - size up or down? Might give it a try on, just in case it is the most flattering dress I've ever tried!

mrsl - that is v v nice but too deep back for me I'm afraid. My back is mole-y as well as a bit spotty and really not good.

You sound like me - cowl necks look great too!

I'm a size 12 but I really do look pregnant in anything that doesn't fit right Sad. I do look much better in dresses than anything else or slim fit flat fronted trousers and a hip length top that skims over the tum.

I resent being so short as even the petite stuff comes up too long in the body sometimes!

MrsLettuce · 07/05/2017 19:45

No idea on sizing I'm afraid. this is reasonably similar to teh other one. very elegant

Chewbecca · 07/05/2017 19:58

Yes random - a nice droopy cowl is good too.

Really I like to wear jeans or jean cut trousers (hard to find) and, like you say, a perfectly fitting hip length top.

I would like a dress for a wedding though. & we're cruising in the summer & dresses are always handy for then too.

My very best work dress was from minuet petite - a scoop neck and perfect shape by itself and just skimmed over me. The brand has now gone I think. I have the dress in two colours and might take to a dressmaker to copy when they get tired!

Would you try a Lindy Bop dress? I have this one, am 5'2 with a thick waist and very chunky arms.

jeaux90 · 07/05/2017 20:24
