Non frumpy cardigan.... please help!

Hello
I was wondering if anyone had seen any nice cardigans recently. I want it as an alternative to a coat on these slightly warmer days. It will be to go with jeans or chinos and a tshirt. I would prefer not all acrylic (ideally cotton).

I went shopping today and didn't find anything I liked. I don't get much chance to shop in real life so online is best.

Thank you so much for any suggestions!

Can your budget stretch to cashmere? I think it is hard for a classic cashmere cardigan to look frumpy. M and S do a few nice ones, I am currently wearing a scarlet button through one I bought from them about a year ago, goes with everything from jeans to smart and is warm when the weather is cold but does not get too hot or sweaty when the the sun comes out.

Thank you, I shall have a look. I love cashmere but only have jumpers and not cardigans.

Gap cotton or Uniqlo merino.

Lands End cashmere is massively better quality than most, and they have some in their sale section at the moment. Always worth looking for a voucher code too - two weeks ago they were doing 30% off all sale stuff, last week 25% off everything, etc.

Alternatively Uniqlo is really good. Also I think exaggerated shapes are less frumpy - so either very long (knee length) or really cropped and fitted, depending on your shape and preference.

I got this recently, had been looking for a longline cardi - it's great with most things!

I think it is a lost cause. My dearly loved grandmother who passed away at 94 refused her whole life to wear a cardigan as she said they were always frumpy - and she felt too young for them. Grin

Notsandwiches · 05/05/2017 14:40

Isn't that an oxymoron?

Pinkpiglet · 05/05/2017 14:44

Haha allegretto your grandmother sounds like a very wise lady!
Thank you for the suggestions, I shall have a good browse of them now.

Jigsaw often has lovely, kind of over-sized cardigans that work brilliantly as coat-replacements. I'm wearing one now and I don't think I look frumpy today; as always it's about what they're teamed with. (I'm also wearing skinny jeans, 'cool' trainers that I love but DH says I'm too old for bastard and fancy sunglasses. I think I look unusually presentable and definitely not frumpy today, having had a meltdown yesterday about how much I look like an over-tired, almost 40-year-old mother of two small children. (Which I am.))

Obviously if you go for a twinset-style cardy...well that's a different matter.
