Cardigans - Are they in or out? Any nice ones around?

My DH used to call me Pauline (Fowler) because of my love for cardigans. I've gone a bit off them over the last few years but would love to try again.

What type are in? I've had everything from bolero to waterfall (consigned to charity) to crew neck, boyfriend, biker etc. I am currently cardiganless and lost.

Please can you advise me?

Thank you SmileGinCake

Do you honestly care if they are in/out but keep the chill off?Grin

They will never be sexy. But I love them. Just not waterfall. You'll look like a giant vagina.

MaybeDoctor · 04/05/2017 20:47

It is a bit like asking if pants are in or out, or teeshirts...

But if they are 'out' how do people keep warm in britains varying temperatures?

AvoidingCallenetics · 04/05/2017 21:06

I bought a nice (imo, anyway) black one from new look with a lace patterned back.

thedevilinablackdress · 04/05/2017 21:18

Bollocks are they out! Cardigans are a basic essential as far as I'm concerned. Tend to go for boyfriend style as that works best with my wardrobe but I like to have a selection of styles and fabrics. Currently sporting an oversize cable knit in pink cotton.

queenofawkward · 04/05/2017 21:20

I love the light ones you get in New Look (of all places) - thin material, just over bum length, come in a variety of colours

woodhill · 04/05/2017 21:22

My wardrobe is cardigans, who wants to keep taking a sweater on and off in warmer weather.

43percentburnt · 04/05/2017 21:22

Got a lovely one a couple of months back in h and m. Black, shortish and chunky - no buttons.

Want2beme · 04/05/2017 21:34

If they're in the shops, they're not out. I wear cardis, short, long, chunky, lightweight.

neveradullmoment99 · 04/05/2017 21:49

I think its a bit silly to say that a cardigan is in or out of fashion. Cardigans are a staple. They are practical and there are many different types. Certain ones are a bit old fashioned like waterfall ones but a cardigan imo is a staple. They look brilliant long with skinny jeans and fabulous for a pear shape especially.

FluffyBathTowel · 04/05/2017 21:55

I don't think they're in or out, they're just there. Like coats and jackets. Styles may vary but generally just buy ones that suit you and that you like. Apart from waterfalls - they're nobodies friend.

I like chunky longer ones in winter and more fitted crew neck ones for work with pencil dresses. Though I'd never wear my work Ines outside of work with jeans etc

CantChoose · 04/05/2017 22:01

I love a waterfall cardigan and I have to force myself not to wear them anymore dreams wistfully of the 90s

NiceCardigan · 04/05/2017 22:06

Ahem

Mrstumbletap · 04/05/2017 22:14

The are not out, they are cardigans they will always be around.

I got a nice zipped one from Tesco the other day and I bought the thin one from New Look with the lace back that is nice too.

Debenhams have nice ones too.

Pistachiois50pmore · 04/05/2017 22:26

Vogue just posted this. On their way back as a look (obviously never went away as a functional basic) www.vogue.co.uk/gallery/best-spring-summer-cardigans

MaryLennoxsScowl · 04/05/2017 22:45

Those Vogue ones have made me want an embellished one like my granny would wear and a wrap ballerina one - I haven't had a wrap cardie since school! Ideally in a bright colour, I think.

MaryLennoxsScowl · 04/05/2017 22:48

I'm an hourglass and while I adore long draped slinky cardigans on some, and chunky long knit art studenty ones too, they rather hide my assets - I'm too short to successfully look long and lean in a chunky cardi.

VictoriaMcdade · 04/05/2017 22:50

You can't beat a cashmere plain round neck.

However, I am curvy so any boxy ones look crap on me. I was pleasantly surprised by a nice cropped one for the summer. Nice with skirts and dresses, but also with jeans and a plain T.

I rate Pure Collection if you can get over the slightly old fashioned catalogue style. I'm not impressed by Biden. And I dream one day of having a new Brora one.

Mrstumbletap · 06/05/2017 10:14

Ooo that bright red one on the vogue link is gorgeous! If only I had £245, I wonder if they have it in H&M......

TheFifthKey · 06/05/2017 10:15

Primark have decent cotton ones for about £6, nice colours too.
