Help me please!! Wedding outfit

Going to a friend's wedding at the end of May. Small, fairly casual do.

Had a day off without kids today and thought 'Hooray! I can shop uninterrupted!' Well, I'm so disappointed. I genuinely couldn't find a suitable dress in any High St shop - they are all, as a rule, absolutely vile. Horrible polyester fabrics, dreadful patterns or awful ruffle-y bits...what has happened to fashion?! John Lewis was awash with highly flammable, godawfulness...

Anyway, you're a 5ft 5 curvy size 14/16 (large arse, small waist) and ideally, you don't want to spend more than £100. Where can I shop? Im 40 this year and don't want to look like my mother. Help meeeeeee....

Have you tried Phase Eight?
I really like the dresses in there and have recently bought two for weddings and other events I am going to this year.

Can I blatantly placemark. I have a wedding end of May, not overly formal. Size 14/16 fat arse small waist, slightly taller...... can't find anything...

fluentinsarcasm · 04/05/2017 20:28

This made me smile. After weeks of looking in everyshop (including Germany) asking on here, looking online I've finally found a dress for a wedding.
Good 'ol M&S.
Knee length - (If I liked the dress it was always 3" too short)
Sleeves - needed these to cover psoriasis.
It may be polyester but I feel comfortable and confident and it didn't break the bank, probably only wear it once.

Ah, I only had a cursory look in M&S - I'll have a browse.

I've been looking at some of the 50s stuff on Lindy Bop (I def have more of a 50s figure Grin) but have no idea about fit or quality. Anyone know?

Look at oasis maybe? Or if you can get a ted baker dress in the sale or on eBay I find the thick material they use is very flattering to highlight a waist but hide tum/bum

MaryLennoxsScowl · 04/05/2017 22:51

What about a vintage shop for real 50s dresses if you like Lindybop? Much better made and more stylish, and at 5'5" you're not too tall for them.

MrsLettuce · 04/05/2017 22:53

Lindy bop isn't the best quality really. You could try 20th century foxy and Nancy mac.

fluentinsarcasm · 04/05/2017 22:59

theprettydresscompany

good choice of styles

Jellyboobs · 04/05/2017 23:01

I just bought a Lindy Bop large size from eBay. Im a size 14 with a fat arse and round stomach. It's ever so slightly too big but very comfy and I wouldn't fit in a medium. I'm 5'6" and it's just below knee length.
They have a sale on right now too.

Jellyboobs · 04/05/2017 23:02

That should say 14/16!

BillyButtfuck · 04/05/2017 23:06

I'm placemarking for a wedding I'm going to in 2 weeks and desperately searching for an outfit for !

OlennasWimple · 04/05/2017 23:19

I quite like this M&S dress 98% cotton but - of course - polyester lining

And this linen blend shift dress could be accessorised beautifully to be lovely too

OlennasWimple · 04/05/2017 23:29

This Joules dress has a cotton lining and a lovely shape

bojorojo · 05/05/2017 01:31

LK Bennett do lovely dresses. Hobbs too. Jigsaw may have casual/smart dresses. I also think M and S has a few worth looking at.

OlennasWimple · 05/05/2017 15:42

This cotton dress is lovely if the blue works for you
