We're going to wales at the end of the month and I wanted to get recommendations on what shoes to wear for going out and about walking? Do I need hiking shoes or regular trainers ok? Thank you x

Do you mean hill walking? Depending on how mountainous, either hiking boots or rugged walking trainers. Hiking boots give more ankle protection on steep paths. If you don't want to spend a lot, Mountain Warehouse are cheap and cheerful, or Go Outdoors or Decathlon also good value. Get them slightly big so you can have walking socks and take some Compeed in case of blisters.

Waterproof jacket a must for Wales but you might know that Grin

Buy 1000 Mile double layer socks, guaranteed won't give you blisters and I wear Merrell Chameleon walking shoes or Berhaus boots - I buy a size larger than normal shoes.
Have a great time!

Thank you!! General walking and we are planning to go on paths to see waterfalls. Our 4 year old and 5 year old are going to be with us so nothing too extreme Blush. Any recommendations on waterproofs and specific trainers? Thanks x

Do they need to be specific to Wales? Paint a dragon on one and a butterfly on the other?! Grin

Seriously, I second the double layer socks. Brilliant at stopping blisters.

PickleSarnie · 03/05/2017 21:53

Not a butterfly. A daffodils. Ffs. I can't even blame autocorrect for that. My brain thought one thing. My thumb typed something else

sammy891 · 03/05/2017 22:06

Hahaha not specific to Wales. Any good
walking trainers/boots Grin

Salomon eclipse are popular and come in a high/low version. You have to try them on really, everyone's feet are different. Most shops that sell them can advise you re fit.

Karrimor walking boots are really decent but also cheap. Amazon or sports direct usually have them. I order my usual size but still fit double socks in.

Regatta waterproofs aren't overly great. Trespass are fab but still at the cheaper end on the market, their jackets with cool heat or cool tech (I forget the official name) insulation are warm too which can be very good in Wales. Peter storm are usually a little more expensive but are good especially their pac a macs and longer length pac a parkas. I've picked up a few peter storm kids jackets super cheap on eBay.

Take a decent fleece and thermal underwear in case you hit a cold spell. Wales can be very cool especially in the mountains

Thank you so much. Will have a look on Amazon as well.

I've got North face Hedgehogs, waterproof and light. I live in Wales if that helps [Grin]

Was just about to say north face hedgehogs! I've literally just been looking at some online - love my current pair.
