Calling all doublewear users!

I use doublewear and love it as it covers a multitude of sins and stays on all day. However I don't like wearing it on holiday as it's obviously quite heavy. Does anyone have any good holiday alternatives that still give good coverage? Is the lighter doublewear worth trying? Don't really want to fork out too much money. Or should I just mix what I have with a wee bit moisturiser?

Oof, the faff of wearing foundation on holiday!
I guess if you like DoubleWear, asking if you would consider tinted moisturiser and powder isn't going to help? Could you practise with double wear/ moisturiser before you go to see if it gives the coverage you want?
If you can't forgo the coverage then I would say crack on with whatever makes you feel confident, as feeling like a sweaty mess on holiday is the pits.

If you want an alternative, a foundation that everyone seems to like which gives good coverage and is buildable is Nars Sheer Glow. Shades are on the yellow side though.

In the past I have bought a cheapo foundation for holidays in a shade darker to allow for tanning as I always find my normal foundation looks a bit chalky on me as soon as I get a bit of colour.

ColourFX do a great product called Custom Colour drops, which you can add to serum or moisturiser- more drops equal more coverage. You can make your own foundation with your choice of coverage this way, or buy a darker colour to add to an existing foundation to allow for tanning. They also do Custom blot drops, which you can add to moisturiser, or wear alone to stop shine - if you're wearing DoubleWear because you get shiny with other foundations, something like this may work?

Mix it with a bit of moisturizer for a lighter wear?

tralaaa · 03/05/2017 06:54

I wear DW on holiday as normal a bit of corn silk powder over the top. Lipstick and sunglasses- holiday ready

SorrelForbes · 03/05/2017 06:58

Try Double Wear Nude instead. It's very light indeed.

Sciurus83 · 03/05/2017 09:35

Sorry I misread your post! I haven't tried the light myself but it has had good reviews si if you are a big DW fan I would try it. Personally on holiday I steer away from heavy coverage and go with chanel vitalumiere aqua, I've got the It cosmetics CC at the moment which I really like, higher coverage and spf 50 though it's a pain to get hold of. Got mine through QVC but last time I checked they were out of the lighter shades. When all else fails and I've got a tan which I know will last a week and it's stinking hot the the standard garnier BB has its place!

ElspethFlashman · 03/05/2017 09:39

I don't think full coverage + holiday really go together tbh.

BUT L'oreal have one called Infallible - there are two but it's the one in the tube I'm talking about. It's fantastic and V similar to DW. There's also one in a bottle which I haven't tried but some people rave about. I think they're for two different skin types.

Maudlinmaud · 03/05/2017 09:44

Do you need coverage? I'll be honest dw is too heavy for me, I feel like I can't move my face when I've worn it. Haven't tried dw light but some of my friends love it and their makeup looks lovely. Do you tan? I wear guerlain terracotta skin on holiday it's lovely.

InfinityPlusOne · 03/05/2017 09:45

Can I just ask those who use it regularly if it is drying? I had the light version colour matched to me recently and I liked the colour a lot (I'm very pale) but I do have dry skin so I'd be slightly concerned it could worsen that.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 03/05/2017 10:50

I've got normal/combi skin ( dry on cheeks) and it's completely fine. I don't find it drying at all, but I do use a good moisturiser and a primer beforehand.

piemaker · 03/05/2017 11:30

Revlon Colourstay I like.

I wear doublewear in the winter and colourstay in the summer.

InfinityPlusOne · 03/05/2017 12:22

Thanks Lady. I'm really quite dry (cheeks and forehead) and manage to keep a lid on it with a half decent skincare regime but I wouldn't like to make it worse or end up flaky as hell by the end of the day.

WeeM · 03/05/2017 12:46

Lots of good suggestions thanks. Never heard of those blot drop things, sound great. I have really bad skin so do need the coverage and I don't normally feel dw is heavy on but i do when abroad. I'm not bothered if just kicking about a pool/beach but we will be out and about in cities. I would forego a bit of coverage though.
I don't tan either, l am as pale as can be so often struggle getting a foundation pale enough! Use Shell DW which is the lightest they do. I think I might try and get a tester of the dw light to try before I go.
I've never felt Dw is drying either but then I have combi skin.

I have just discovered Clinique's CC cream and am a total convert. SPF 30, lasts really well (unlike many Clinique products IME), good coverage. I'm very pale too but no problem getting a colour match.

BlondeGinger · 03/05/2017 13:44

I'm a die hard Double Wear user, I use Shell too. I'm not too bothered on holiday but did find a specific face SPF in Boots (in the sun cream section, not the makeup section) and it was factor 50 but also described as a BB cream, so did have some coverage. The lightest colour worked well for me. Obviously not Double wear coverage but I still felt like I had something on.

Ellapaella · 03/05/2017 14:21

Bourjois CC cream is excellent, gives good coverage but not too thick with a nice dewy finish.

mercurious · 03/05/2017 14:40

I'm also DW user - 'pale almond'. Just tried a sample of Bare Minerals complexion rescue gel bb-type make up in 'natural'. (I'm looking for something for weekends and walking the dog). Lovely natural finish with some cover and an spf. Only downside was that it didn't last the whole day, I'm going to see if I can try with their powder. Another contender is Filorga BB perfect (from M&S) shade 2 was too dark, shade 1 is a pretty good match. I liked both because they didn't settle in fine lines around eyes and had a dewy natural finish. Watching for more suggestions with interest.

WeeM · 03/05/2017 19:38

@blondeginger I see a lot of reviews for that Boots one say it's too dark for fair skin so I think I'd maybe be reluctant to buy it but I do like the fact it's spf 50 so maybe worth a go for £6. It maybe just depends if it oxidises on the skin.
That bourjois one gets great reviews so I might have a look at that. I might see if I can get a tester if the bare minerals one too.

I've just been on holiday, and I mixed DW with BB cream in the evenings because it felt too heavy on its own- worked perfectly. I've switched to DW Light since getting home though, and do prefer it.

WeeM · 03/05/2017 21:13

Never though of that, what BB cream did you use?

OP posts:
Donttakemeout · 03/05/2017 22:49

I usually just add moisturiser to my DW on holiday for a lighter dewy finish

GingerLDN · 03/05/2017 23:57

DW light is good on holiday

Doobigetta · 04/05/2017 08:10

This one: www.boots.com/dr-jart-premium-beauty-balm-cream-spf40-40ml-10139449
It seemed to have a good list of proper skincare in it, and I liked the SPF40. It's weirdly greyish when it first goes on, but it evens out, and it feels lovely and velvety. I used it on its own on the beach, and mixed with DW at night, and now I'm back home I'm using it under foundation as a primer.
