Makeover at Benefit counter?

Anyone had one before? I've booked one at a local department store for tomorrow as I have a wedding reception to attend tomorrow night and don't want to look my normal mess. Anyone have any experience/advice? I don't normally wear make up and if I do it's fairly minimal so I don't want to come out looking like a clown!

I've not had a full makeover but ive certainly used them before and own products. Benefit is great for a good solid basic item. Thinks like their hello flawless foundation and powder, they're real mascara, lemonade and boi-inf concealer, their brow products are also fantastic (and I always have my brows waxed and dyed there coming up 15 years I think!?)

In terms of things like lipstick etc they're pretty good quality but very straightforward. No crazy colours like Mac etc, they don't really do thinks like liquid lipsticks. If you're looking for a good fresh faced, day to day look they'll be brilliant and a simple day to night look I'd say.

It can be pricey though so watch out. I ended up spending £75 the other day unintentionally (totally worth it though)

My dd had a trial at Benefit for her Prom last year. She is not a very girly girl and this was the 1st time she had worn a full face of makeup. I was very careful to tell them that before they started - that she wanted a very natural look. She came out looking like something out of a Las Vegas transvestite show! It was pretty hilarious for me but not so much for dd - we had to go to boots straight from the store to get baby wipes to take it all off.

You can usually tell by the way the sales assistants make up is done. If they have it caked on chances are they will do that to you too.

Having said that I use and like quite a few benefit products and so we brought some of the colours they had used that suited dd and I did her makeup much more lightly for prom and she looked beautiful.

sweetheart that's what I'm worried about! I wear very minimal makeup so definitely don't want to come out looking like I'm in drag .
I just want to look like me but a nicer version, with 'good' skin and maybe slightly smokey eyes. Panicking now!

If you want natural maybe the bare minerals or clarins counter rather than benefit

Their products are really good but they are very heavy handed with them. More is more with them.

Yeah I got them to try an eyeliner on me once and ended up looking like I had two black eyes. It was hideous. I wouldn't recommend it for a special event.

Instead try watching some tutorials on YouTube and try something yourself. At least you have a little time to practice.
However if you only wear minimal makeup just try going for some bronze eye shadow (a cream one will last longer) lashings of mascara for a dramatic eye and a gorgeous lip colour (maybe a berry nude type one) then top with some highlighter and you'll look fab and probably more comfortable

What's your budget? Might it be worth treating yourself to some new make up instead? A bit of foundation, decent eyeliner and mascara can go a long way

Bobbi Brown are a bit more realistic for a natural look if you have one of those.

I'm not confident enough to do it myself. I won't know anyone other than the person I'm going with tomorrow and am hoping a pro job will give me a confidence boost

In that case just stress that you would like a natural look.

What is your colouring like? We might be able to help with which products/colours to ask for

Maybe you could do your own foundation and concealer at home and then at least you can be sure you won't have them smearing a foundation on that is too heavy or the wrong colour. They can then focus on blusher, highlight, eyes and lips.

iamthe very dark hair and hazel eyes but quite pale skin. I have quite a few spot scars and moles on my face which make me horribly self conscious

Id recommend Bobbi Brown for a more natural look plus their foundations etc are better imo than those from Benefit. I like some of Benefit's products and sometime have my eye brows done my them but I don't think they have enough good products for a full face if that makes sense..

I work in a department store where there is a benefit counter and they all like very heavy make up and eyebrows...I find benefit is all about the brows! Big brows

Have a good look at the people doing the actual make up... Clinique are good so are bare minerals urban decay can be give or take depending on the make up artist.

Yes you can but only depending on how busy your nearest store is..... my store is quiet at the minute so they pretty much love having customers in!
Benefit is usually quite busy though, you can ring your local Debenhams and ask to speak to them on the phone they could book you in that way, or like I said go in and suss out what the make up artist is like and you can book a specific person!

I have warm toned skin. I came out of my. benefit makeover caked in shimmery cool toned makeup and looking like a transvestite showgirl. Shimmery purples and blues on my eyelids were the worst bit.

Plan to head to Debenhams and case the joint before heading to Benefit . Hopefully they won't turn me into a clown.

Just be very firm with them, if I were you I'd take a picture of someone with the look you are after. Maybe Jenifer Aniston or something.

For future I agree that Bobbi Brown are the best for natural make up. Although their foundations are yellow based so possibly a bit warm for cool toned skin. I'm similar colouring to you and cool toned but I'd still go to BB.

Chanel are really good but I don't know if they do full faces.

It was ok. Wouldn't really rate it any better than that. Even though I said I didn't really wear make up and didn't want it caked on it still felt and looked too heavy to me. And ended up spending nearly £70 on products I really don't need . Don't think I'd go back there

That's a shame but at least it wasn't too bad. I do think Benefit tend to go overly heavy. I think because a lot of the staff are young, they do make up to look good on photos rather than in real life. The things you bought might be good when you apply them yourself.
