Summer trousers / jeans recommendations for a 40+ size 14?

Having spent the winter in black skinny jeans & boots, I am now stuck what to wear now the weather is a bit warmer, but not yet warm enough for skirts / cropped trousers.

My black skinnies are looking faded anyway and don't always look right with my summer tops. Add to this the problem that I am over 40 and a size 14 so pale skinny jeans are out - far too unflattering! (I tried on some khaki ones and it wasn't a nice sight Shock)

I'd like some jeans that would look nice with pumps / ballet flats and also I was thinking maybe some tailored cotton trousers, or chinos?

A lot of shops seem to have in baggy linen trousers but I find they just get rumpled so quickly and really aren't flattering on the thighs and make my hips look huge!

Any tips of what you are wearing at the moment, or shops to suit me? I tried Next today and it was a disaster.
Thank you! Smile

Go to COS

UppityHumpty · 28/04/2017 12:28

GAP's Authentic straight in shades of blue.

getdressednow · 28/04/2017 13:18

Boden Richmond in plain colours are flattering and forgiving.
They do some 7/8th I think too.

Sorry wrong thread

I have just bought some navy chinos from Debenhams today - reduced to £24 from £30. I'm 58. They also have some nice looking ones in M and S.

I find skinny jeans too hot and sweaty in summer unless it is cold.

JennyWoodentop · 28/04/2017 16:58

Boden Rachel Chinos are nice - full length but you can roll up the cuffs for 7/8. I got the grey which is lovely, but quite pale if that's a concern. They have navy and the fabric is not too thick for summer.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/04/2017 17:15

I have a couple of pairs of skinny combats from M&S which I wear slightly rolled up.

Summer jeans are difficult. Can you throw money at the issue? If yes, get yourself to a shop that stocks Annette Goertz, pronto. If not, try everything in your high street. Everything.

Dare I say Next have some decent chinos in several colours.

Seconding the Next chino suggestion. They're also lightweight cotton which makes a pleasant change.

RedMetamorphosis · 28/04/2017 22:18

YY to Next or GAP chinos.

Topshop and M&S have some cropped crepe wide leg trousers which are surprisingly flattering.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll give them a go and let you know how I get on! Those Uniqlo ones look nice.

Those Boden Richmonds look nice. I think the patterns might be a bit much, but they have navy - I can't see any grey though. They have 20% off at the moment!
