Anyone fancy a 'shit I'm going on holiday, I need to sort myself out' thread?

It's just dawned on me that it's 6 weeks til my holiday, this has made me feel considerable guilt about the 90% Easter egg diet I've been on for the past week.....anyway I'm not interested in any 'bikini body' nonsense but does anyone fancy a general 'sort your shit out' pre holiday type thread?
Somewhere we can gather and spur each other on to drink 14 gallons of water per day and dry body brush away 3 stone of dead skin?! We can share swimwear ideas, how not to look an agitated, red, sweaty mess in the sun (me) and maybe even cultivate an air of tanned sophistication?! Is it too much to ask?
Me, I'm going to ramp up my water intake, get my hair cut, but new swimwear that I actually like and don't leave to rot for 6 months in a damp swimbag.....summer dresses and sandals, keep on top of my gym going and yoga (hopefully).....
Anyone want to join in?

Yes ! 8 weeks for me . I am on week 2 of the Michael Mosley 8 week blood sugar diet (Again... did it last year lost over a stone but sadly put a lot of it back on ) , But that is just for my own personal 'beach body-ish' gratification , so dont worry I am not going to go on about it here )

But good swimwear ideas especially if you need bra sizes .. I like Panache, Freya and Fantasie . Good places to look for bargains for both swimwear and beachwear are Leia Swimwear Outlet, Belle Lingerie and Lazeme (I have ordered from al of these in the past (particually if one site has has the top and another the bottom) and they are all good , -especially if you need to return items.

Laska5772 · 24/04/2017 22:24

I am very white naturally and hardlt change colour even if i try hard . The best gradual tanner I have found for me , is:
L'Oreal Sublime Bronze Gradual Tan Lotion Light. it goes on evenly ive found and doesnt have that awful biscuitty smell either Grin They do it in a medium tan also ..

SimplyNigella · 24/04/2017 22:52

Laska I've ordered some to try, fingers crossed it works for me. The no smell is a definite bonus.

DropZoneOne · 24/04/2017 23:03

5 weeks for me, pretty sure I had longer than that last time I thought "must start thinking about the holiday"

Really need a good pair of comfy walking sandals - been trying to replace my Clark ones for the past 5 years but nothing is as comfy and they are fraying! Also some black low heel /wedge sandals with an ankle strap - again, been trying to replace a fab Clarks pair for years and scared the strap will fail at any moment!

Kennethnoisewater · 25/04/2017 08:57

I've ordered this, I just hope there's enough support in the Norks area! Not brave enough to start ordering bikinis yet! Got up and did 30 mins yoga this morning. Must drink some water.....

4 weeks for me, started low carbing again yesterday to try and shift a few pounds, still on the hunt for that elusive swimsuit that's going to wipe 10lbs as soon as I put it on. Needs to be size 16 and I'd love green but it's so hard to find ?!?

lilyroses · 25/04/2017 09:14

Under 2 days and I still haven't done anything to sort myself out Blush

Kennethnoisewater · 25/04/2017 09:20

You know what lily once you get there you won't care! Which I know kind of undermines this thread but I obsess every year for weeks before I go away but once I'm on the beach/by the pool, cocktail in hand I'm just not bothered!
Everyone is busy enjoying themselves to care about what anyone else looks like!

vvviola · 25/04/2017 09:50

Ooh, can I join?

We're going away in 9 weeks. Not exactly going anywhere particularly hot (we're going to Cornwall), but considering I melt when the temperature gets above 24 degrees and it's going to be quite a beach-y, active holiday, I need to get sorted.

I've started running 3 times a week (but unfortunately have been eating to compensate!) but I need to focus on the skin-improving, water drinking etc (and stop eating crap).

My natural colour is luminous white, so I should probably look into a subtle gradual tanner.

Anyone know if they have any nice swimsuits in M&S for the large of breast and wobbly of tummy? I don't want to spend much as I'm losing weight (1/2 stone so far), but I have an M&S voucher so it feels like it isn't really money Grin

Ilovespringandchocolate · 25/04/2017 09:53

2.5 weeks for me. I'm trying to low carb and do as much exercise as poss.

Will be getting eyebrows waxed and tinted, some eyelash extensions and my hair trimmed and highlighted the week before I go.

Bought a couple of summer dresses for the evenings last week. Need to get a few more bits (go through and see what I do have first) and a couple more bikinis next week!

Underparmummy · 25/04/2017 10:55

5 weeks here...

I am low carbing and pilates and yoga obsessing (HIIT gives me rugby player thighs). Bit of gentle jogging.

Cannot afford new clothes so need to make do.

Need to work out what to do with legs covered in spider veins and straw like hair....

LadyOfTheCanyon · 25/04/2017 11:06

5.5 weeks till Greece with a friend. I lost 1.5 stone of the 3 I need to shift before Christmas and then fell off the wagon, so although it's not desperate I can't backslide any further, so I'm My Fitness Palling and on 2 litres of water a day plus salads and not too much booze. that's realistically all I can hope for to be honest -not to get any fatter!

As usual I'll panic buy three swimsuits the week before and hate them all and wear the one I always do.

Have just ordered the FitFlop Lumy sandals in pale gold, which don't look too dreadful.

Kenneth I used tan optimiser tablets last year before my holiday and they did absolutely fuck all apart from taste horrid. Grin

HalfStar · 25/04/2017 11:17

Marking place. Holiday in 8 weeks time. Went for a run yesterday for the first time in I'm-embarrassed-to-say-how-long. I didn't die (it was a very short run) and felt great and proud of self afterwards. Going to try to force myself to go back to yoga too.

I'm also lily white but don't think I will bother doing fake tan this year, it makes me feel so much better but does come off almost straight away in chlorine leaving weird patches. Not sure it's worth it.

Currently trying to find a light, cottony dress or playsuit for coverup after swimming, nothing too glam or sequinny.

I rather like this and these. For some reason a bikini top and cute shorts seems more doable than a bikini on its own...

Kennethnoisewater · 25/04/2017 11:36

underpar I am whiter than white (I'm actually pale blue) and I swear by this product of you want to hide and veins, patchiness, chicken skin etc. It's sally Hansen spray on legs, ignite the dreadful 1980's packaging, it's great stuff, spray on legs, rub it in and voila! Makes you look like you're wearing really good tights but obviously you're not wearing tan tights (unless you're my nan) I buy the lightest shade, and it's waterproof, also comes in a tube which is also good.

I would just like to say at this point that I'm pretty sure I will end up wearing some variation on black skinny harem pants and a mid heeled sandal with a sparkly t-shirt as my go to holiday evening wear.

Every year I want to be the person who insouciantly throws on some wide legged linen trousers and a floppy hat and drifts round the Parthenon, and without fail every year I am there sweating in the same 3/4 length trousers and M&S tshirt I've taken on holiday for the last 4 years. Confused

We are going to a fairly nice hotel where you are expected to dress up a bit for dinner ( which I really enjoy if I've spent most of the day by the pool). I always take a ton of maxi dresses and then have a confidence crisis and go with the harem pants.

What do you all do for holiday clothes?

Kennethnoisewater · 25/04/2017 11:56

It really depends where we're going lady I'm the same as you, full of intention but when it comes to actually being there I'm so hot and bothered I can't stand anything tight, fitted, heavy, anything with sleeves etc, if it were up to me I'd wear a giant oversized t shirt and bare feet! I've got lots of beautiful summer clothes but when it's 35 degrees they all just feel uncomfortable!

OP posts:
Underparmummy · 25/04/2017 12:03

I like dresses but struggle as they have to be cotton - vicose etc makes me sweat up and go bright red (and they are all vicose or polyester!).

Had a gorgeous halter neck seasalt one but dd1 managed to rip the pocket off jumping on me from a height in the playground ..?!...

Kennethnoisewater · 25/04/2017 12:08

I concur, all my fave summer items have been ruined in similar incidents, chocolate ice cream handprints on a favourite cream gap sundress, yellow sun cream stains that won't wash out.....to name a couple.

MiniCooperLover · 25/04/2017 12:45

I would love to be the slouchy shirt and linen trousers person but with giant boobs at size 16 it's too tricky 😳

IfNotDuffers · 25/04/2017 12:51

I found a lovely bikini and sundress in the Bravissimo sale a few weeks ago, very reduced, so if you're not a standard size it might be worth a look there.

I'm now looking for the holy grail of a linen short sleeved shirt that is loose but not so loose that I look pregnant, to wear with linen trousers so as to avoid the whole 'sun cream every inche of skin and inevitably miss a bit' thing in the middle of the day. Ideally I'd wear it with shorts, but I've pretty much given up on flattering shorts...

RatHammock · 25/04/2017 12:51

@LoupGarou.

I have most of my stuff sorted for my holiday. What I really need to pull it all together is a weasel scarf. Don't suppose you have a picture of such an item? Wink

Chrisinthemorning · 25/04/2017 18:11

Place marking. We go in less than 4 weeks.
I have 3 bikinis that are ok. I'm a 32G so buy Free by Gottex from Bravissimo with a fold brief for coverage. I could do with loosing a few pounds but CBA.
I find shirred strapless sundresses in cotton most useful but am struggling to find them this year- anyone seen any?

happypoobum · 25/04/2017 18:27

Portugal in 7 weeks - yikes!

Used Footner last year and loved it - but I am a sporner Smile

I am using the new revamped Dove gradual tanner - summer revived in medium to dark and I find it's fantastic. Doesn't streak at all or make my moles a weird colour like the garnier one.

On a strict diet and have given up alcohol.

I have one of those M&S hide all your bumps one pieces, but am in my fifties and a size 14 so it's for the best I assure you.

I have new gazelles for the journey and any long walks I decide to take (with the tall dark mysterious man I am going to meet) lovely Cos sandals from last years sale. Denim bermuda shorts from Tu and roll up girlfriend jeans from M&S Autograph.

Have plentiful dresses but still can't fit into them Blush

MiniCooperLover · 25/04/2017 19:34

Got a new linen dress and trousers from Next today, am hoping with some Oasis vests (can just squeeze my boobs into their 16s) that I'm outfit sorted all holiday 👍

Kennethnoisewater · 26/04/2017 09:33

I'm psyching myself up for my personal training session in an hour. Battling an ear infection and feeling pretty crappy tbh. I'm going shopping tomorrow though, hoping to pick up some nice holiday bits but usually when ive got money burning a hole in my pocket I can't find anything I like!
