a question for Sketchers fans...

I need comfortable shoes for walking in and have almost decided on Sketchers - I just wanted to ask those that have them, do your feet get sweaty in them and do they smell, not having leather insoles??
I had the cheap version of these last summer(from Tesco) and they were super comfy but stank after a few weeks!!

Mine don't get particularly sweaty in them, and they don't smell. I have four pairs - the oldest is about four years old or so and still not stinky. You can just throw them straight in the washing machine without a problem, too, though I don't need to do that often.

Fettuccinecarbonara · 24/04/2017 12:23

They STINK!

GlitterGlue · 24/04/2017 12:26

I just bung trainers in the washer with laundry disinfectant. Usually sorts them out.

Whathaveilost · 24/04/2017 12:27

DH wears sketchers as they suit his foot style best.
His shoes aren't smelly!

FannyFifer · 24/04/2017 12:29

Mines absolutely honk, have the go walk ones & the memory foam sole is like a big sweaty sponge.
Although I recently bought trainer socks & a shoe deodorant & it's improved a lot.

CheersMedea · 24/04/2017 12:38

Why not just wear a sock or low cut trainer liner?

Your feet sweat buckets during the day so all shoes will start to smell if you just sweat into them.

Have you never taken off a sock after a hot day/long run and found how damp it is? That is just going into the insole and festering every day.

Buggymonsters · 24/04/2017 12:43

Hmm, a mixed response. I suspect mine would get smelly, as I seem to be predisposed to smelly feet in certain shoes! As someone said, those type of insoles seem to soak up sweat like a sponge.
Just trying to figure out if it's worth paying £50 odd for Sketchers or just buy the cheap ones again and keep washing them after a few wears...
Or can anyone recommend a trainer-type shoe you can wear in the summer without socks that doesn't get smelly??

That's true Cheers. I just like being able to step into a comfy shoe without having to put socks on, especially in the summer, but I walk long distances so sandals usually don't give the same comfort.
I do find leather insoles don't get so smelly though.

Thanks everyone for your replies by the way.

Not too smelly and can be washed

GhostlyAbode · 24/04/2017 12:55

Very smelly. And washing worked but not for long. I wore them for the commute with tights so may be better with cotton socks.

confuugled1 · 24/04/2017 12:56

Is it all sketchers that can be washed or just certain ones? And for the ones that have the memory foam insoles - can they be washed too?

Have looked at them in the shops over the years but have a really bad heel at the moment and wondering if they would help when it's warmer weather. Also predisposed to getting stinky feet so knowing I could bung them in the wash to stop them getting too stinky would be great! (and sorry for all the questions - but do you just throw them in or do you separate the shoes and the insoles, put anything else in with them - be it an ordinary wash or a big towel to help take up some of the space and lessen the noise...) Thanks!

purplehonesty · 24/04/2017 12:59

I wear go walks for work and for walking
I use those trainer socks called golden something? From ASDA - they are really low so you don't see them over the shoe
My shoes don't really smell but I wash them every couple of months as I am prone to dropping things on my feet Hmm

CheersMedea · 24/04/2017 13:55

I just don't get this tbh. How long does it take to slip a pair of socks on?!?!?

Socks -especially running sock style trainer liners which are super comfortable and designed to prevent blisters - make walking in trainer type shoes SO much more comfortable. They protect against blisters and absorb all the sweat. More hygienic too! Not to mention the smell issue.

The no socks thing for trainers is a mystery to me. I couldn't bear to put my feet directly into damp stinky trainers with all the festering stale sweat! Bleurgh!

Liiinoo · 24/04/2017 16:15

My Skechers stink if I don't wear trainer liners and need frequent washing.

ilovecherries · 24/04/2017 16:32

I keep saying This on every thread that discusses trainers - I just want trainers liners that stay in place. Primark, M&S, Next, Sainsbury's, Falke etc etc. All off in seconds. I'd love to find those magic things everyone talks about

Mrs9C · 24/04/2017 17:50

Mine didn't smell. But I washed them and they came out of the wash smelly Confused.

stickygotstuck · 24/04/2017 17:55

I'm with you, Medea. The mind boggles St sockless trainers wearing! FWIW I can't bear trainer liners either, precisely because of ilovecherries' issue, they come off. Plus I don't want any part of my foot in direct contact with the inside of the shoe.

Nicketynac · 24/04/2017 21:53

cherries I have just started wearing Primark low rise trainer liners (or shoe liners, I can't remember what the packet said) and they stay on better for me. They are made of normal thin black sock material, not the sporty ones which either dug into my heels or slid off.
They are quite thin so I don't expect them to last long but they were only £3 for a pack of four or five.

TheClaws · 25/04/2017 00:39

confuugled, when washing in the machine, I use throw the shoes in with a bit of washing liquid. No need to separate anything. They come out perfect.

Re: the socks issue, I was told Skechers were designed to be worn without socks. The insoles wick away any moisture. I haven't had any issues at all.

Bloomed · 25/04/2017 00:44

Yes I wear skechers with memory foam insoles and never with sock, just wash them.

QuestionableMouse · 25/04/2017 01:02

I wear mine for work and my feet do get quite warm. I wear socks though so my shoes don't stink.

ShelaghTurner · 25/04/2017 03:24

I only ever wear socks when it's absolutely freezing, they make me feel claustrophobic! None of my shoes or boots smell and my go walks are just fine and very comfy.
